Itās a real family affair for the McGillivrays ā Roy and Sue, along with their sons Simon and Ben, went through the U.P. transformation and are well on their way to becoming āthe fittest family in the worldā!
Moving back to the UK after living in Spain for 12 years, the McGillivrays let the stress that comes with relocating sideline their health.
The transition was particularly difficult for Sue, since she was also caring for her ill parents at the time.
For four years, Sue prioritised her parentsā health before her own, which took a toll on her health both physically and mentally. Over time, she fell out of love with herself and grew tired of how she looked, which understandably was hard for the rest of the family to see.
After losing her mother to diabetes, Sue came to the realisation that she couldnāt continue the way it was.
She had to put herself and her health first, and make sure that she doesnāt go down the same road as her mother.

Thatās when Roy and Sue, along with their elder son Simon, decided to ditch their old, unhealthy lifestyles and turned to Ultimate Performance Manchester in hopes for a better and fitter future.
Having witnessed his loved onesā results, Ben signed up to U.P. Manchester three months later.
Since then, the McGillivrays have collectively lost almost 38kg (84 lbs).

While everyone in the family has made massive improvements, they all agree unanimously that Sue has seen the biggest transformation.
āBeing overweight I felt like a big person had eaten a small person. I knew I was inside there somewhere, I just needed to get back to me.
āIāve lost more than 22kg (49lbs), and all my friends just cannot believe the transformation.
āThe fact that I can now fit in my wedding dress, which Iād not been able to fit into for 29 years, is just insane.
āIāve got a new vigour and a new zest for life ā and it feels great!ā

Simon recognises the changes in his mum, calling them āincredibleā.
āI look at her now and sheās enjoying life.
āShe feels so much better in herself and that rubs off on all of us.ā
Ben echoes that sentiment, saying āItās everything about her ā her whole outlook on life, her attitude and her mood is just so much better.
āSheās so much more confident now.
āAlthough sheās always been a really positive person, at times she might have put on a front to look strong, which she has been ā sheās the strongest woman I know, but sheās even stronger now.

The efforts and improvements that Roy has made didnāt go unnoticed either.
According to Simon, his dad blew up to almost 100kg (220 lbs) at one point. He says: āIt didnāt look good on him.
āBefore joining U.P., my dadās health definitely took a backseat. I didnāt believe him when he first said that he was going to join U.P. with me, but weāve done it and itās been great for our relationship.
āItās more than just the physical difference, I can tell that he feels sharper mentally as well ā heās got that mental edge and sharpness now.ā

Likewise, Ben can see that his dad has gained confidence that he never had before.

Even though each member of the family has dabbled with personal training before, this is the first time they actually achieved the results they set out to.

Similarly, the U.P. experience for Sue is a huge departure from the kind of personal training sheās used to.
āThe difference here is that my personal trainer wants it as much as I do. For me, thatās made all the difference.ā

As a close-knit family, Simon admits that gatherings used to involve takeaways and a few drinks at the pub, āBut weāve found healthier alternatives, such as a healthier meal at the weekend or we go bowling together.
āWe still get to spend quality time together as a family, while making healthier choices.ā

Even when theyāre not training, theyāre still able to find time to enjoy each otherās company thanks to our programme.
