Peter was filled with embarrassment when he was told he was too big to go on a rollercoaster in Vietnam.
He felt horrible in his body, after relying on take-out meals up to five times a week and avoiding exercise for as long as he can remember.
Now 30 years old, Peter faced the reality of his situation sat at work one afternoon and set a goal of getting in shape. He knew he needed to make radical dietary changes and find a way to motivate himself – so reached out to Ultimate Performance Manchester.
Peter’s remarkable 17kg weight loss is a result of bespoke personal training, which focused on lifting weights and tidying up his diet completely. Peter has dropped four inches from his waist and has now ‘come out of his shell’ given his huge boost in body confidence.
His transformation has been met with countless compliments from those closest to him. He now looks unrecognisable and is no longer embarrassed about being seen shirtless – proudly boasting a muscular physique and defined abs.
“I’ve noticed that I’m much stronger and my clothes fit looser.
“It’s amazing to see that I’ve got definition in my chest, and I can actually see my abs. I never thought I’d get to that point in my life.
“I’ve got so much more energy and I’m getting up earlier to do things.”
Here, Peter speaks about how embarrassed he was about his physique, how his trainer motivated him to leave his poor lifestyle habits behind, and why the ‘old Peter’ wouldn’t have believed his body transformation was possible.
What was your motivation to begin training with U.P.?
I remember sitting at work and thinking that by the time I’m 30 I’m going to achieve the physique I’ve always wanted.
There was one time when I was at a theme park back in Vietnam, and I was told I couldn’t go on the front of a ride because I was too big.
So, I had to sit on the row behind, which was really embarrassing. At that point, I realised I needed to do something – I felt horrible.
What did your diet and lifestyle look like before you started working with your trainer?
My diet was awful. There were probably one or two days where I cooked something for myself, but every other night was a takeaway or was just spent eating rubbish.
I was lazy, unmotivated and felt sluggish about myself. I would always prefer to get a taxi or take the bus – anything to avoid exercise. I was always sweaty and just walking up the stairs was tough. I feel a lot better about myself now I’m fit and in shape.
How has your transformation benefitted you?
I’ve noticed that I’m much stronger and my clothes fit looser. People noticed that I looked different which is always nice, especially when they haven’t seen me in a while. I completely overhauled my diet and stopped eating out. So, I started meal prepping and making more nutritious foods, which helped me not feel sluggish and lethargic.
I had to go to the tailors the other day and get four inches off my waist because my pants were too loose. It’s a brilliant feeling to know that you’ve actually lost weight and your clothes don’t fit you anymore. I look and feel much better about myself. I’ve got so much more energy and I’m getting up earlier to do things. I used to be a little bit shy and reserved, but I feel like I’ve come out of my shell.
How does U.P. compare to training experiences you’ve had in the past and how do you feel about yourself now?
My training in the past was quite staggered. I’d always try and train, but I’d switch my routine up and never stick to it. At U.P., my trainer really helped me stay consistent and stick to the plan that we’d created. Taking these small steps and building little habits with the help of my trainer has led me to where I am now.
It’s amazing to see that I’ve got definition in my chest, and I can actually see my abs. I never thought I’d get to that point in my life. I achieved great weight loss, which was one thing, but to do a photoshoot and stand in front of a camera with my shirt off is a massive achievement.
What would you say to people who want to start their own transformation at U.P., but are fearful of weight training?
People shouldn’t feel afraid to do weight training, because it helps you towards your goals. You won’t bulk up and look like a bodybuilder at the end of your program like people think.
The weight training I’ve been doing at U.P. has helped me lose weight and look great. I definitely don’t look like a bodybuilder. So, don’t be afraid of lifting weights and you’ll see results if you stick to your plan.
Finally, do you think you’ve got a return on investment and reached your initial goal?
Definitely. Now that I’ve achieved my goal, I feel overwhelmed by what’s happened. I still feel like it’s a dream. The old me looking at the new me would have been stunned and doubtful this transformation was possible.
But I’m much happier in myself and I’m excited to see where the next step takes me. It’s exactly what I wanted for my health. You come to U.P. because you want to get in shape and improve your health so you can live longer, right?
