It’s incredible what a difference losing weight can make.
Mike’s astonishing body transformation at U.P. has seen him lose 88lbs (40kg) in 33 weeks and trim an incredible 16 inches (40cm) from his waistline.
The construction company operations director says his life-changing weight loss has made him a different person.
He has gone from being an overweight, tired and stressed 40-year-old whose niece used to call ‘fat’, to a super-fit, positive and outgoing executive with fire in his belly to achieve even greater goals.
Mike says it has made him feel 10 years younger and says he is in better physical shape than when he played football for Scottish League One club Forfar Athletic as a teenager in the 90s.
“I feel great. I’m really, really pleased with my results.
“I’ve dropped from 254lbs (115kg) to 167lbs (76kg) and my body fat has gone down from 40% to 11%.
“A few people that I have known for a long time haven’t recognised me when I’ve walked past them.
“I feel great and wake up every day looking forward to what the day brings. I feel 10 years younger since starting at U.P.”
Mike explains how he had tried fad diets before, what changed with his nutrition when he came to U.P. and the most powerful things he learned from his trainer to keep the weight off and maintain his new body for good.
What were your motivations for starting a transformation with UP?
U.P. was mentioned to me by someone I met, they hadn’t been, but had heard great things about it.
I searched the internet and liked the transformations and results that other people had experienced and thought I’d try it.

I needed a programme that required commitment and was prepared to do whatever it would take.
Can you tell me how you were feeling both physically and mentally before starting with U.P.?
Mentally and physically I wasn’t really in a good position. I was quite down in the dumps, my physical activity was really low, and I was in a bad place.
I constantly felt tired, unmotivated and had no energy or enthusiasm to exercise.
What was your diet and lifestyle like before you started your transformation with U.P.?
My diet was very poor before starting with U.P. I survived mostly on convenience foods and takeaways; all very bad food choices and no portion control.
My lifestyle really consisted of working long hours with minimal socialising, other than occasionally with work colleagues after hours.
I was quite lazy, I didn’t do much exercise and I just worked all the time.
Had you tried to lose weight before?
I tried a diet called Lighter Life about six years ago.
I lost 42lbs (19kg) in three months. Then when I finished that diet I put on another 55lbs (25kg) over a period of time and ended up heavier than prior to starting.
How did your diet and lifestyle change when you started your transformation with U.P.?
My diet since joining U.P. has improved dramatically. I was quickly provided with instructions and advice on food choices along with tips on how to deal with eating out at restaurants and eating and exercising whilst away on leave.
My lifestyle has also improved. I have more energy and enthusiasm and I think clearer. My sleeping habits have improved greatly and I genuinely feel so much better mentally and physically.
Changing my nutrition helped me in the gym and helped me during the day, it gave me energy and I wasn’t hungry, I knew I was eating the right foods and doing everything to progress.
It’s definitely helped me in my work life too; I’m a lot more focussed, a lot more driven and in a much better place.
I’m a lot more positive and I’m a much happier person now.
What effect did this have on your health, performance, lifestyle and energy inside and outside the gym?
My health has improved, I’m getting stronger and fitter and my energy levels are great. I sometimes have long days with early starts and I have to say that I don’t suffer from any lack of energy or motivation.
I am really enjoying the gym, we set new goals periodically and my trainer is there to make sure I adhere to the programme and push myself to my limits.
What had been the biggest mistake you were making on your diet before and how did you change it at U.P.?

My biggest mistake with regards to my diet before joining U.P. was portion control. I’d over-indulge almost all the time and this, along with poor food choices and little exercise, seems to have compounded my weight gain over the last 15 years.
You are accountable when you join U.P. You can’t cheat the system with daily progress and monitoring updates. If you want the results you need to adhere to the programme and the results will be experienced.
It’s a commitment mentally as much as physically. Your trainer is always there with support and advice and pushes you during every session.
How did you find the training and did it fit around your busy lifestyle?
I’ve found the training challenging, yet so rewarding. It’s easy to see and monitor progress with weights increasing or simply by just pushing out an extra rep. Your trainer records everything so progress is easily determined.
My trainer Matt has been really accommodating with any schedule changes and we quickly found a schedule that worked. I don’t miss the early morning personal training sessions though and now train in the evenings after work.
How quickly did you see results in the mirror?
I saw results very quickly when I joined because I was obviously overweight.
I did lose quite a lot of weight quickly at the beginning.
The changes felt really good because I had a lot more energy. You just want to get out and about more and do lots of exercises and in general feel a lot more positive.
How would you compare yourself from Day 1 to now?
I think it’s quite difficult to compare because when I walked into the gym the first time to when I walked in this morning, I’m a completely different person. It’s just changed my life!
What have friends and family said about your results?
My friends and family are really happy to see me go through this and see what I’ve achieved.
I used to get a few comments from my youngest niece who is four saying I was ‘fat’ – one of my goals was to get rid of that.
What were the most important things you learned during your transformation?
Probably the most important things that I have learned from U.P. is the importance of quality training and ensuring that it is the quality of the training, not the quantity that’s vital.
This, along with food choices and portion control, as well as ensuring you get some good quality sleep and rest, are paramount to achieving your health and fitness aspirations.
How has doing this transformation changed you and do you think it will benefit you going forward?
Since completing my initial transformation I am much more positive and focussed.
We’ve set some new targets that we are working on and I’m looking forward to seeing how far I can go with my training.
I am also more determined personally and professionally as a result of my transformation.
I have a much better social life, I get out and about more, I do a lot more exercise and I’m a much more positive person.
Are there any supplements that have helped make this transformation?
I’ve taken a variety of supplements, but the one thing that has had the most impact is probably the magnesium.
It has really helped my sleep; I’m getting seven or eight hours of sleep a night now and feel really good.
Would you recommend U.P. and why?
I would and do recommend U.P. to anyone that asks about my transformation. The whole environment is positive, encouraging and everyone is genuinely interested in progression.
I wouldn’t have achieved my results without the constant advice, support and encouragement from my trainer. Matt has been there for me when I’ve needed reassurance and support when training and I know he’s there for me when I’m at a breaking point in the gym, especially on the days that I train my lower body.
You’ll get the results you strive for if you put the effort in and commit to the training programme.
