Here, Sabina discusses how her trainer helped her understand the foods that would fill her with energy, and how she’s become comfortable lifting weights despite having no prior experience.
What motivated you to start training with Ultimate Performance?
I wasn’t happy with the way I looked. I thought I was active and spent a lot of time at the gym, but my weight wasn’t moving. I’d seen my boyfriend’s transformation at U.P. in London, which really worked for him. I just wanted to look and feel better about myself and improve my overall health. I wouldn’t say I had any drastic health issues or concerns, but I wanted to be in better health for the future.
How would you describe your lifestyle before joining U.P.?
I thought I was relatively healthy. I stayed active and didn’t think I was eating that badly. But at the weekend I’d go out quite a lot, and throughout the week I would regularly go out for dinner. I was doing a lot of cardio to try and lose weight, but no weight training because I didn’t know how to. I was just focusing on a lot of cardio classes.

How would you describe your diet before U.P. and what did you learn from your nutrition plan?
I was probably under-eating before I joined U.P. I definitely wasn’t eating the right foods and would often skip breakfast, not have much for lunch and then end up snacking. At weekends, I’d go out for dinner and didn’t realise how many calories I consumed.
When I was cooking at home, I’d always use oil without realising how many calories it contained. So, coming to U.P. was a great learning process to help me understand how many calories I should eat and which foods would support my progress. It took a little bit of time to weigh everything out and calculate what foods worked for me, but it was worth it in the end.
Now you’ve completed your transformation, how do you feel about yourself?
I’m now at a weight that I’m really happy with. I enjoyed all my sessions with U.P. and feel a lot happier with what I eat now. My diet is very balanced and I’ve learned how to manage my macros during the day. I know what foods are good for me and what food will set my progress back.
For example, we learned that feta wasn’t great because I was retaining a lot of water. I just feel like I have a lot more energy with the food I’m eating now. My family were also amazed by the weight that I’d lost. I hadn’t been home for a year, so they saw me almost 12kg lighter.
