This beachfront city is known for its incredible health and fitness amenities, which include miles of bike paths, running trails, and beaches. We look at the public health profile of Santa Monica and some of the health inequalities in the city, as well as the level of physical activity among adults and children. The obesity rate among adults in Santa Monica is only 12.0%, which is significantly lower than the national average of 28.0%.
One of the most important factors that contribute to Santa Monica’s low obesity rate is the high level of physical activity among residents. Adults in Santa Monica get an average of 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week. This is thanks in part to the city’s incredible health and fitness amenities. which makes it easy for residents to get the recommended amount of physical activity.
Another factor that contributes to Santa Monica’s low obesity rate is the city’s healthy eating habits. According to the Santa Monica Health and Fitness Profile, residents of Santa Monica eat an average of five fruits and vegetables per day. This is significantly higher than the national average of three fruits and vegetables per day. Santa Monica has a high level of physical activity and a low obesity rate, but there is still room for improvement when it comes to diabetes prevention. According to the Santa Monica Health and Fitness Profile, the diabetes prevalence rate among adults in Santa Monica is 11.0%.
