When Shayne and his fiancée Sophie had a daughter together, life really took over.
The stress of work and touring as a singer and actor was taking its toll on X-Factor winner and former Coronation Street star Shayne.
He really wanted a reboot and came to U.P. Cheshire to get some life-changing results with his daughter Willow as his motivation for getting back in shape.
A matter of months later and he’s undergone a remarkable journey with U.P. which has made a huge impact on his health, his happiness and his family life.
“My confidence is through the roof,” says Shayne. “People say ‘you look happier!’ I’m happy to not be in that place I was 21 weeks ago.
“Now, eating the correct foods, eating healthily, going to the gym, having a more positive mindset, being social with friends, all these little things help in life. I’m not going to go back. That door is closed now.”

Before coming to U.P., Shayne says he was in a bad place.
He had fallen into a rut of not exercising and just eating whatever he wanted – takeaways, burgers, chips and desserts.
A foodie with a real sweet tooth, he was finding as he got older his metabolism was slowing down and he couldn’t get away with it like he used to.
“When I talk about my past eating, I am my own Shallow Hal. I always thought in the next few years I was going to be airlifted out of my bedroom because I have such a sweet tooth!
“The older you get, you’re going to face these things. You can’t get away with it anymore. When your younger your metabolism is a lot quicker, whereas now it’s quite scary.
“I’m 34 now. I’m at the stage in my life where I need to make that change. I’m not eating bad constantly. But I like a take-out. I would always have a dessert too. I loved it. But so did my waist.”

It really became apparent during his time on Coronation Street when his character Aidan Connor’s outfits were getting tighter and tighter fitting.
It wasn’t long before it was being discussed on social media.
“When I was on Coronation Street, I would say to the wardrobe department ‘will you take in my shirt a little bit so it looks a little more fitted because I’m a factory boss.’
“But then it became a bit of a topic on social media because that shirt was getting tighter and tighter.
“I used to say to wardrobe ‘you’ve taken it in too much’ but then I realised I was always going into the green room and picking up the sweets off the side or biscuits.
“Over time it builds and builds and builds. I was becoming twice of me on that show!”
Shayne wanted to get back on track and make lifestyle changes that were lifelong.
“My motivation throughout all this is my little girl and that will not change,” Shayne said.
“I obviously want to look the best I can look and feel the best I can feel, be as healthy as I can be, but my daughter Willow May comes above all that.”
Shayne’s goal was to lose his belly and build up his chest.
He has always been aware of his mid-section, even going back to the days as a singer and heartthrob doing magazine photoshoots and music videos.
“Whenever you were getting ready for a music video, back 14 or 15 years ago when I won X-Factor, you would have to get in shape just in case the director went ‘Open your shirt!’
“I’m like ‘Why!? Because I love my food!’
“I know I speak for myself, and a lot of guys I know as well, we always suffer with putting a lot of weight on around our midsection, our gut and our hip. That’s the area we always feel most conscious about.”
“Since the training, that’s been the place that has changed the most. Love handles, I think that’s what we all call them and they’ve completely gone down!”

Coming to U.P. together with Sophie was a big step, but one Shayne knew could bring about the big changes he wanted to feel better, look great and be the best parent he could be.
From day one, it wasn’t going to be easy tackling tough training sessions and getting on top of the diet.
But seeing results quickly and feeling better from the simple but profound dietary changes made a big impact.
While Shayne did eat good, wholesome food before, it was the extra takeaways, junk food and fizzy drinks that were holding him back.
Cutting out the junk and replacing it with healthy whole foods had an almost-instantaneous effect.
“I love my food and I’ve got such a sweet tooth, but cutting out the sweets and treats I’ve seen a drastic change in my body.
“I don’t feel as sluggish waking up now. I was never a lazy person, but it makes you feel lazy. You haven’t got that ‘get up and go’.”
The results started to show pretty quickly. In the first few weeks, Shayne was losing around a pound every few days.
“The change in my body has been crazy,” Shayne said. “I know I speak for myself, and a lot of guys I know as well, we always suffer with putting a lot of weight on around our midsection, our gut and our hip.
“That’s the area we always feel most conscious about. Since the training, that’s been the place that has changed the most. Love handles – I think that’s what we all call them – they’ve completely gone down.”

Hard work and consistency with his training and diet really paid off. Despite going on holiday halfway through his transformation, Shayne still managed to achieve the results he wanted and make the big changes he set out at the start.
He’s absolutely delighted with the results he has achieved, and feeling a million miles away from the man who walked into U.P. on day one.
“It’s been 21 weeks. I was in a completely different place before. I was sluggish, I didn’t really want to do anything. I always put on a bit of a persona, but it was the tears of a clown behind that smiling face.
“My mindset back then was a horrible place. I was quite sad a lot of the time. I didn’t enjoy ‘me’, whereas now I’m starting to feel like I’m coming back to ‘me’. I feel amazing.
“I’m so far removed from that now and so grateful for what U.P. have offered me a way forward.
“I feel good, I feel fresh, I’m not quite 21 anymore, but I’m feeling really good.”
As someone who’s been with Shayne since the start of his transformation, Sophie has noticed a big change in her husband-to-be.
“I will say to Shayne that I can definitely see a difference in him – not just physically, but his attitude. And he’s more calm and sleeping better!”
Shayne says he feels incredibly proud of what he and Sophie have achieved as a couple.
“Watching Sophie over 20 weeks has just blown me away – she is so determined and so focussed, and in the happiest place I’ve seen her!
“Knowing I had my best friend beside me all along the way and she was doing exactly the same as me was an amazing thing to do.
“I’m so proud to see how far she has come as well. Let me just say, she is looking fine! Don’t leave me, Sophie!”
