Dad Scott Loses 27kg in Stunning 24-Week Transformation

Scott was stuck in a constant cycle of feeling hopeless about his weight and then eating to deal with his emotions.

Here he explains why his transformation was so successful…

What were your expectations going into the programme and what were your motivations?

“To be honest, I had mixed expectations going into the programme.  I’ve tried multiple different fitness routines and have even tried personal trainers throughout the years, all with differing results.

I had heard positive things about UP and was optimistic that I would achieve great results, but there was some doubt in the back of my mind because I was physically in the worst shape of my life.

My motivation was primarily that I was tired of being fat and unhealthy.”

I wanted to be a positive example to my children and I got to the point where I felt the weight was affecting more than just my physical appearance.

“I needed to do something drastic and I felt UP was the best place for this.”

Can you tell me how you were feeling both physically and mentally before starting with UP?

“Physically, I was feeling sluggish and unmotivated.  I knew that I needed to start a fitness routine, however, the longer I put it off, the harder it became to start.  I think mentally I was feeling embarrassed about how far I’d let myself go.

I’m an emotional eater, so as my confidence and mental state deteriorated I began to try and cover those feelings with food.”

I was in this vicious cycle of feeling too fat to exercise and then burying those emotions with food.

What was your diet and lifestyle like before you started your transformation with UP?

I was actually into my fitness during my 20s and 30s. I’m from the USA and I moved to the UK right after turning 40. After moving, I lost my routine and struggled to find a gym and a support network.

Although the foods between the US and UK aren’t very different, I’d go to the grocery store and wouldn’t recognise any brands or I struggled to find certain products. I, however, never struggled to find familiar brands like OreosDoritos, and Ben and Jerry’s.

Go to the American section of your local store and all it’s filled with is junk food. My routine soon after moving to the UK became one of eating too much junk food and moving less.


How did your diet and lifestyle change when you started your transformation with UP?

“My diet and lifestyle changed completely.  I regained a fitness routine that became an important part of my day.

My trainer, became the support network that I needed. On those days where I lacked motivation to eat properly or to workout, I relied heavily on my trainer and my desire to not let him down.

At first, I was more accountable to my trainer than I was to myself. In time, I found more confidence and a desire to get out in the world. I had a commitment to walk a certain number of steps each day and I soon found that I was looking forward to this routine.”

What effect did this have on your health, performance, lifestyle and energy inside and outside the gym?

“I found that as the weight started coming off everything started to change. My attitude towards life and to new experiences changed. I felt that the weight kept me from enjoying things and loving life.

As I started to feel and look better, my confidence grew and my energy improved. I no longer wanted to stay inside all day. There was a whole world that I wanted to explore.

Inside the gym, as I started to get stronger and feel more energy, I started to look forward to my workouts. Each time I stepped on the scale or saw progress pictures I felt motivated to continue. The self-doubt that I started with was being replaced by confidence and a new-found motivation to push beyond my initial goals.”

How did you find the training and did it fit around your busy lifestyle?

In the beginning, I found the training difficult. I had been stuck in my comfort zone for so long that the training was a shock to my system.

But each day I made small strides of progress that, over time, turned into massive gains.

My training was quite easy to fit around my busy lifestyle because my trainer, was very flexible and always worked with me to make sure that we could find convenient times for my training.


What were your results like after your transformation?

“After my transformation, I realised that it is much easier to maintain your fitness level and weight than it is to try and lose the weight again. Because of this, I try very hard to stick to a regular fitness routine and to continue with good eating habits.”

I’ve also learned how to have some meals for enjoyment without sabotaging all my hard work.

What were the most important things you learned during your journey and what really worked for you in helping you make your transformation?

“I’ve always been a person that has a negative voice running through the back of my mind. As I started to put weight on, this voice became a more dominant sound in my head. When I finally started my transformation, that voice was replaced by my trainer.

No longer was I hearing and thinking that I couldn’t do something… I was hearing my trainer telling me that I could lose the weight, that I could do one more rep, and that I could achieve my goals.

So in the end, I learned to shut off the negativity and that I could achieve much more than I ever thought possible.

I believe I owe my success to my trainer and to the fact that he never gave up on me and he always kept me focused on the positive.”

How has doing this transformation changed you and do you think it will benefit you going forward?

I really feel like this transformation has given me my life back.  Over the years as I started gaining weight, I fell into a rut both physically and mentally.
