Grace’s 17kg (37lbs) transformation helps her rebuild healthy habits with food and fitness

An inactive lifestyle, poor dietary choices, and the emotional pressure from a breakup spiralled Grace’s life out of control both physically and mentally.
Her fitness took such a hit that she became breathless after climbing a couple of stairs.
Tired of finding excuses and lacking the motivation to get in shape on her own, she eventually decided to sign up with Ultimate Performance to change things once and for all.
Over 22 weeks, Grace slimmed down, learned about nutrition and discovered the power of weight training to achieve a complete transformation.

“I am very happy with my result. We managed to get almost 20kg (44lbs) weight down in time.
“With my nutrition, I learned about how many calories I can have if I need to lose weight and then slowly building back up the calories to be able to have a more balanced diet and maintain my weight.”
Thinking back to before her U.P. transformation, Grace remembers her activity levels dropping and her weight creeping up.

“I noticed that I wasn’t getting out very much and was putting on weight and I was quite upset with my fitness.
“I live in a walk-up building and I was getting out of breath just walking up three flights of stairs.
“I had a really bad relationship that put some pressure on me and had a great focus at certain points to do with my weight. So then, as a counter to protect myself, I just put on weight and got into a very unhealthy mental and eating cycle.”
Just finding the motivation and impetus to get fit was getting harder and harder for Grace.
“My biggest struggle before coming to U.P. with trying to stay fit was self-motivation.
“I was trying to go hiking or going to the swimming pool, but the swimming pools were busy or getting shut so I’d end up sitting around and eating unhealthy food rather than going out and doing the exercise.”
Grace joined U.P. to get fitter and feel more energetic.
Having a personalised training and nutrition plan built around her unique goals and a trainer to support her was a refreshing change.
With regular training sessions, a consistent diet and tracking of her progress, Grace could see the results happening right before her eyes.
Even a long-term shoulder problem couldn’t stop her progress, as her trainer helped her work safely and effectively in the gym to strengthen and stabilise it.

“I have a shoulder that can subluxate. Working in the gym and building up the shoulder muscles has been good. I need to keep those muscles built up otherwise it will just move around and cause me a lot of problems and eventually be painful again.”
Over the course of her transformation program, Grace lost a total of 17kg (37lbs) and built a slim and toned figure.
But it’s the wider impact on her life that getting in shape has given her that is most satisfying. She is in a good place with her fitness and motivated to carry on with her healthy new lifestyle – and lifting weights.
“I learned a bit more about weight training. Cardio is crucial if you have to lose weight, but the weight training is something that I want to continue afterwards.”
