Now he’s lost 7kg and gained an impressive amount of muscle alongside his trainer.

But the most pleasing outcome is the example he’s set to his eldest child who seeing him training and living a healthy lifestyle.

In this Q&A with one of our expert trainers, William discusses the importance of being fit for his young family…

What was your main reason for joining U.P.?

Coming in, I wanted to be healthier and stronger. I’m turning 40 this year, my wife is having twins. Growing up, I was always the skinny kid, and so never in my life did I think turning 40 was going to be the year I’d look my best and feel my best. I just didn’t think it was attainable. I didn’t know how to do it. I’ve tried and I’ve failed in the past, but U.P. has really helped me to achieve my goal which I never thought was possible.

What is it about the processes at U.P. that you think has helped you succeed?

My trainer, Adam, has enabled me to do so much more than I thought I could. His attention to detail and every single rep, the effort I put in, I’ve got back tenfold. The structure at U.P. has enabled me to do that. Now I’m healthier, stronger, I’m happier. Mentally I feel clearer than I ever have, and I’m really excited about that.

What was your fitness level like before joining U.P.?

I’ve been in athletics my entire life, but the bench press was one of those things that I just feared. I could never do it and I didn’t know how to do it. It’s one of those things that feels really good to have conquered at the age of 40. I knew I was weak in this area but having had the help from my trainer to figure it out made all the difference. Yes, I’m stronger in my chest but it’s also given me confidence in life. It feels really good to know I can still overcome obstacles and achieve goals I’ve had my entire life, at the age of 40.

That’s amazing! You have a young son, and twins on the way. Do you think this process has inspired him too?

Yeah. I think your kids are always watching you, and so even when you’re not trying to make an impression on them, you are. He may not see me working out, but he sees me being sweaty afterwards. He’s asked me why I’m sweaty, why I’m exercising and what I’m eating every day. It’s got to the point where Noah now says, “hey, let’s go exercise together!” He’s intrigued by it and it’s definitely a good impression for me to have on the kids.

Would you recommend U.P. to other people? What would you say has been the key to your success?

Yeah, I would definitely recommend the program to anyone, and to my friends and family. I think the key thing for me is that Ultimate Performance gives you the framework and the structure to be successful, with the nutrition plan, the workouts, the app. My trainer has been the catalyst to me excessing more than what I thought I could really do.

I came in not that fit, and not that healthy. Now I’m stronger and healthier but it’s more than that. My body is more balanced. I am more physically capable of running after the kids and picking them up and catching them quickly when they fall, and just living life in an energetic way. Being more athletic in general is a great thing at the age of 40. It’s about being strong; it’s about being balanced and just being overall healthy. And this program has really done that for me, and I couldn’t be more excited about it.
