Client of the Month: Alvin

Alvin has finally found the formula for washboard abs at 48 with Ultimate Performance Singapore.
As a middle-aged office worker, Alvin had always found it impossible to get rid of his belly and excess fat.
He had been following Ultimate Performance transformation stories for a while but could never get the time to commit to it.
But when his DIY attempts at exercising plateaued, he decided it was time to prioritise his health and finally signed up to a three-month body transformation programme at U.P. Singapore.
Alvin lost 11kg and brought his body fat down from 21.5% to 12%.
And of course, the biggest gain for him was finally achieving the trim waist of his youth.
“I never imagined that one day I would become lean and fit.
“For years, I was not able to get rid of my belly, and I really thought it was impossible.”
OUR PERSONAL TRAINING PROGRAMME OFFERS A COMPLETE LIFESTYLE CHANGE THAT YOU NEED.
Alvin came in expecting the biggest challenge to be physical. But getting to grips with changing his diet was the biggest hurdle.
Despite having a first-week blip, he stuck with the programme and was able to start reaping the benefits.
“To be honest, I tried and failed after the first week - I caught a bug and fell ill and started eating my regular food to get back on track and lift my morale.
“But after one week, I told my trainer about it, and he just encouraged me not to give up and keep going. I failed a couple of times, but it got better each time.”
Learning the fundamental principles of nutrition has been eye-opening.
Now he feels like he has mastered his diet.
“Diet is such a big part of the U.P. journey. To me, the biggest revelation of coming here was that my definition of ‘diet’ has changed.
“In the past, when I tried to eat healthily, I told the vendor ‘less rice’. But what is 'less rice'? My version of less rice and the vendor's version of less rice are different.
“So the first thing I learned here was that you have to weigh your food so that there is no guesswork. I came to understand that the right way of dieting is not an art but a science. When it became a science for me, I started to have good control over my weight. More importantly, there was no hunger involved.
“In the past, no sugar and no oil meant less sugar and less oil. Here I learnt that ‘no’ means absolutely none. I think that helped me gain some solid control over my weight. Earlier it was like I tried to eat right and hoped to lose weight. Now I know that if I eat right, it's going to be good news when I step on the scale the next day.”
Along with understanding and optimising his food, Alvin also learned the right way to exercise. While weight loss came fairly quickly, building muscle and gaining the right type of weight took a little longer.
“I thought I trained hard before, but at U.P. I realised I was nowhere near what 'hard' really is.
“Also, the definition of 'discipline' is now different for me after witnessing how truly committed U.P.'s trainers and their clients are to the betterment of their body and mind.
“Liu, my trainer, would always push me beyond what I thought I could do, and he would always be right about it, but he also ensured my safety throughout the training session.”
Alvin kept an open mind throughout the process, and once our trainers and programme gained his trust, he just decided to follow his trainer's instructions to the letter.
“Ultimate Performance is not your typical gym. It's a place for body transformation.
“The training and diet are tailored specifically for each individual. The trainers here don't just watch over your exercise regime but also your diet, continually guiding and encouraging you while holding you accountable for your decisions, because getting the body you want is a dynamic process.
“Motivated by my body transformation, my wife is now a client of Liu. When my son is done with his school exam in two months' time, he too intends to start training at U.P.”
