Client of the Month: Nick

When 45-year-old lawyer, Nick walked through the doors at Ultimate Performance he weighed 125kg (275lbs) and all the warning lights for his health were flashing red.
His before photos are impossible to fathom now, but when he started, Nick was obese, and his lifestyle and high-stress work life were only making him worse.
But Nick has now lost an astonishing 52kg (114lbs) over 45 weeks with the help of U.P.

His body fat, which couldn’t even be measured properly when he walked in, was estimated at over 45% is now down to 11%.
Hypertension, high cholesterol, and similar lifestyle-related health problems have disappeared in just 8 months.
“Without sounding too dramatic about it, the whole process at U.P. has changed my life. Now I have so much more vitality; I want to get up and go out.
“I want to do something with my kids, and that's just had an incredible effect on me personally and on my family. The only disadvantage has been that I have had to change my wardrobe at least three times since I started!”

Nick walked in with just one goal in mind – getting healthy. He knew he was getting dangerously close to the point of no return. He had a young family and wanted to get fit for them.
"I had been in a pretty dark place mentally, my family life was suffering, and my work life was suffering too. I think I used to put work first, and everything else was let go.
"I am a lawyer, and I work long, stressful hours. Interacting with customers meant that I was spending a lot of time drinking and eating out. I felt quite lethargic all the time.
“So when I had time off on weekends, I didn't feel too keen to do anything, and it all had a knock-on effect on my family life."

Nick was prepared to commit to U.P.’s programme – while the changes to diet and lifestyle initially appeared drastic, they weren't too hard for him as he was ready to make that change.
“I needed to really commit to something and change my behaviours. The diet was actually quite simple, and I found it quite enjoyable.

He came in wanting to – and expecting to – lose weight. But what Nick achieved was far beyond losing inches and kilos – he found a balance in life that he had been trying to achieve for a long time.
At U.P., he finally found a purpose in his life beyond work.
“I found a balance in life that I have really struggled to pull together over the last 20-30 years despite trying to exercise and diet.
“But it’s not just about strength training and diet, etc. what U.P. really does that it helps you focus on everything in your life.”
Family has been a huge motivation for Nick throughout the process. As a parent, he always wanted to be healthy, be active and be a role model to his children.
Now he has achieved that and more.
"I feel I am setting my kids a really good example, which is important to me. Because how they saw me before is not a good example of how to live your life."

The impact of his transformation is something that will stay with him for life. Now Nick has come this far, he doesn’t plan on going back.
“I am lighter now than when I was 16 years old, I have got a chance of developing a physique that I never thought I would have.
"I know how to balance that out; I know how to work around it so that it doesn't impact me going forward. I truly believe that I am going to maintain the weight loss.”

Forty-five weeks at U.P. have turned Nick’s life around – the huge physical transformation has given him new self-confidence and more energy both at home and work.
He rediscovered and honed his competitive nature at the U.P. gym and is now planning on the next set of goals to aim for.
“The physical transformation is amazing, and I feel grateful for it. I have so much energy, health, and vitality. I have actually got a new lifestyle that I enjoy.
“Whatever happens, active and balanced lifestyle is vital for me now and will remain a big part of my life, including regular strength work. I have really enjoyed working out here at U.P., and I will continue to do so - for the near future and possibly beyond."
