Adam, 43, was going through a difficult time in his life – physically and emotionally. He barely recognised the man staring back in the mirror. ‘Disgusted’ with how far he’d slipped, he decided it was time to reclaim control.
Ultimate Performance gave him the structure, accountability, and support he needed to completely reset his life. In just 18 weeks, Adam dropped 18kg (40lbs), rebuilt his confidence, and discovered the power of consistency and expert guidance.
Now, for the first time in his life, he can see abs – and better yet, he sees a version of himself he’s proud of.
Below, Adam talks about the emotional lows that triggered his transformation, the expert coaching that made the difference, and the moment he finally felt proud to look in the mirror again.
What made you realise it was time to make a change?
I’ve been going through a really difficult time in my life, and I needed to make a change. I felt like putting a lot of energy into myself, into my body, and feeling better about myself would be a good way to start.
How were you feeling physically and mentally before you started?
Physically, I was disgusted with myself. I had become somebody that I didn’t recognise anymore. Mentally, because of things going on in my life, I’ve just been a bit of a mess.
How do you feel about your appearance now?
Definitely much happier. I feel like I’m almost there. I’m not quite there. As you get further along in the process, you start to become a little bit more critical of yourself. So 18 weeks ago, if I knew what I would look like now, I’d be thrilled. But now I want to go even further.
What kind of impact has the transformation had on your energy and lifestyle?
I’m more focussed, I’m more motivated, more structured in my life. It’s been all around just a very positive experience.
How did you fit training into your schedule?
I stick to the same schedule every week, and I think that consistency has been part of my success.

What made U.P. different from anything else you’ve tried?
Nobody has worked me nearly as hard, been nearly as perfectionist in terms of how I do each exercise, making sure that every rep is right, every set is right, motivating me. The diet monitoring has been huge.
What surprised you most about your diet and nutrition?
Learning that I was eating way more than I thought. A lot of people just eat a lot more than they think they do. So when I’m forced to weigh out my portions and be very precise with everything – which seems really onerous at the beginning – but has become just so much a part of my daily life now that I don’t even think about it anymore.
And now that I know what I’m putting into my body, I can very much be in control of how that of how that works. I know if I put in X amount of calories, I’m going to get a certain kind of result.
What physical changes have you noticed?
I’ve never in my life been able to see an abdominal muscle. Even as a kid, I did not have anything like that. I can now. I’ve never been in the kind of shape that I’m in now.
Even with everything going on in my life, it’s just been incredibly life changing.
Do you feel more confident? Have others noticed the change?
I definitely feel more confident. Before this I didn’t realise how much I avoided mirrors, pictures, windows, not looking at myself at all, closing my eyes even when I brushed my teeth because it was so hard to look at myself. I don’t do that anymore. I feel lighter, leaner, and just all around better.
Has shopping for clothes changed for you?
Shopping for clothing was always just something I had to do. Going in and looking at myself trying things on was really difficult. I’d be really critical of myself. When I went to the mall a couple of weeks ago, even 5lbs heavier than I am now, I felt great walking into that try-on room. Everything fit great. It didn’t matter what I was trying on – I looked good in everything.

Would you have been able to do this without your trainer?
I definitely would not have! I think the motivation both in the gym and outside of the gym has been hugely helpful. I think the biggest surprise to me was when I was feeling overwhelmed, like the first couple of days when I’ve got to buy new things at the grocery store and I don’t know how to put together my meal plan or whatever.
I messaged my trainer on the (UP Transform) app and he got back to me immediately, and I was like – this is why I’m paying for this. This is why I have Enrique. It felt like I had the support that I needed, even on a Saturday or Sunday. There was always somebody there to kind of answer that question for me, to make me feel better and help support me. So definitely I could not have done it without.
What was it like pushing through the hard weeks?
You knew from the beginning that we would get to the result that we needed to get – even if there were weeks in between that weren’t great. And we are pretty much at that goal.
How did you overcome plateaus during the process?
I increased my step count. I added in a workout on the weekend by myself, which was also really empowering to know that I could do it on my own.
Would you recommend U.P. to others?
I absolutely would. First of all, it works – if you put in the time and energy and you do what they tell you to do. The biggest thing is – are there other places that could get you to the goal? Maybe. But they do it here in a fraction of the time. The fact that I’ve lost, uh, over 40lbs in slightly less than 18 weeks. It’s crazy.
