Robert considered himself somewhat of a ‘gym veteran’.

But, if he was completely honestly with himself, he’d had very little success over the years.

He’d never carved out the physique he wanted, and having recently hit 41, started to worry that he never would.

It seemed like he wasn’t making any progress, no matter what he tried in the gym. He lost faith in his own methods and after getting married, his efforts to make a change stalled completely…

“I train a lot. I have done so for many years, I have a general knowledge of health and fitness, but I turned 41 this year and it’s become increasingly difficult over time.

“That was the whole point of me coming through the doors to start my journey. I noticed some small changes and some challenges training alone.

“Then, over the last eight to nine months since I got married, I took my foot off the gas. I was in a place where I was the most out of shape that I’d been in the last 10 or 15 years.”

Reflecting back on his DIY training, Robert said he was a creature of habit when it came to structuring his program.

He’d developed a modest understanding of health and fitness, but it wasn’t rounded enough to take him to where he wanted to be.

When the results failed to materialise, he acknowledged that his approach was broken. He just didn’t know how to fix it.

“I needed to change because I’d been so used to a particular way of training.

“I’d trained a certain way for such a period of time that I needed to try something different.

“My intention in coming to U.P. was to see what I could do differently.

“It was a way of putting some accountability on U.P. and asking how do I get the results?

“When I came through the doors it was more a question of whether you were going to be able to get me to a level that I’m not able to attain on my own.

“I needed to do it in a clear timeframe because I only had nine weeks. Working towards my holiday was the motivation behind it.”

It became clear that Robert needed somebody to show him the way. He needed somebody with a proven track record of producing eye-catching and life-changing transformations.

The education he received at U.P. was exactly what was required and gave him an appreciation of what it takes to hit those heights.

“I’m someone who understands fitness, I’ve trained for a number of years, I understand calorie intake, high protein, how to supplement your body.

“But one thing I’d never understood before was the macros that go into it. What are the macro splits? What are the calorie counts? How do you adjust it week by week?

“Generally speaking, in the past, if I was going on holiday, it’d be an intense cut where I’d drop the calories, drop the carbs, I’d lose weight, but I’d lose a lot of size in the process.”

The results Robert achieved during his program spoke for themselves. After years of trying and failing, he finally managed to get into the best shape of his life.

His abs were visible, he added muscle mass, and he was more than ready to show it all off on holiday.

“This has been a healthy program where we’ve adjusted the calories and the macros accordingly to how my body’s reacting.

“It was low calorie at the start, then we moved into carb cycling later on. We started to up the calories during training days.

“And as a result of that, it meant that my body had time to adjust, which in the past is something that I’ve never been able to do or understand.”

The experience reaffirmed the importance of nutrition for Robert, but it also provided him with a broader understanding of what to eat, when to eat it, and why.

The guidance and advice around the nuances of his diet proved invaluable and will undoubtedly have a positive impact on his long-term health.

“Now, coming out of it, I feel like I’ve got a broader understanding that I should be eating carbs, I should be eating high calories, I should be having refeed days, and how to balance that out.

“So, I think the understanding around how that took shape from day to day, week to week, is something that I didn’t have a broader understanding on. Now, I do.”
