The whole experience has exceeded my expectations by far. I feel incredible. I now enjoy wearing t-shirts and I have a 32-inch waist. I haven’t been that slim for 40 years.

Mike had been dragging himself to group weight training classes for years.

Whilst he’d definitely lost some weight, he couldn’t help but feel disappointed.

He’d always ask himself the same question. Surely my hard work deserves better results than this?

Mike was running out of patience as he neared 60 years old. He hoped one day he’d get the look he wanted, but there came a defining moment where he realised a change of approach was in order.

He stepped on the scales one evening and weighed in at just over 89kg– a serious cause for concern considering he wasn’t getting any younger.

So, Mike wasted no time in contacting Ultimate Performance, feeling more desperate than ever.

Right from day one, he no longer felt like ‘just a number’. He had a personalised diet and weight training plan to stick to that was changing the shape of his body quicker than he thought possible.

Fast forward 14 weeks, Mike’s in the best shape of his life. He hasn’t had a waist this small for well over 40 years.

He finds it easy to motivate himself now. Going to the gym is no longer a chore and he’s looking forward to improving the aesthetic upper body he’s worked so hard for.

How Mike did it, in his own words, below…

What made you start your own personal training program with Ultimate Performance?

I had become disillusioned with my current training. I had been attending a group weight training class for many years, and my progress had plateaued.

What shocked me was when I stepped on the scales and saw that I weighed nearly 89kg. It was a bit of a wake-up call, and considering I’m not getting any younger, I was searching for something different that could transform my appearance.

When I saw the posts on Facebook showcasing the astonishing results, I thought I needed to give it a go.

You mentioned you weighed nearly 89kg and wanted to make a real change to your physique. How did you feel about yourself at that time?

Well, in terms of my appearance and how I felt about myself, it’s interesting that I actually felt okay. But when you get to U.P. and start training, it’s eye-opening. I don’t even recognise the person in the first photograph from three months ago.

Looking at it, I think, “Did I really look like that?” I didn’t think I did. I certainly wasn’t proud of how I looked back then. I didn’t feel anywhere near as strong as I do. I wasn’t fit, energised or enthusiastic about anything.

Training used to revitalise me and give me lots of energy, but I had reached a point where I was stuck in the same routine in the same environment. I felt flat and realised I desperately needed a change to give me direction and a renewed sense of purpose.

How would you compare yourself now to when you first started working with your U.P. trainer 14 weeks ago?

It’s like night and day. I genuinely enjoy looking at myself in the mirror now.

There were times, as we’ve all experienced, when I’d be in the bathroom, brushing my teeth, and I’d deliberately avoid looking at myself because of the excess weight. But now, I feel different. I enjoy wearing t-shirts and realising that I have a 32-inch waist. I haven’t had a 32-inch waist since my twenties, which was nearly 40 years ago.

The transformation in my body has been, to put it simply, truly transformational. It’s been incredible. Seeing those posts, you might have a hint of scepticism, like, “Did they really achieve that?” There’s always a bit of doubt, you know? But this whole experience has exceeded my expectations by far.

It’s been nothing short of phenomenal.

Have you had any comments from friends, family, and colleagues about your transformation?

People who haven’t seen me in a few weeks or even longer have been genuinely amazed and completely astonished by my progress. The transformation is visible. It’s not just when I’m in the gym wearing a t-shirt or in regular clothes.

I’ve had to get a whole new wardrobe because my old clothes no longer fit, and it’s obviously for the better. So, people have been not only amazed by the extent of my weight loss, but also by the fact that I’ve put on muscle.

They’re curious and always ask questions—what was the process like? What’s the secret formula? What’s the recipe? How did you achieve this? There’s a lot of positivity and curiosity and I’ve received many encouraging comments.

Tell us how much you’ve learned from your trainer, both inside and outside of the gym.

There are numerous things I’ve learned throughout this process. Even basic habits, like previously, I never used to weigh myself. Now, I weigh myself about three or four times a week. I’ve also improved my water intake. I used to struggle to reach two litres a day, but now I regularly consume three litres which has significantly helped control my appetite. Instead of reaching for easy options in the fridge, I’m more mindful of my choices.

On the nutrition front, I’ve come to understand the significance of maintaining a calorie deficit. In the past, I left things to chance, but with the UP Transform app, I track and log my food intake meticulously. This goes beyond just counting calories; I monitor carbs, fats, and protein as well.

Protein’s importance in muscle building has become evident to me. Unlike before, where I thought I was eating healthily, I realised that my portions were far too big. The app guides you through the day, allowing you to allocate your remaining intake for your evening meal. It gives a clear picture of what’s feasible. It’s completely revolutionized my approach.

Finally, what would you say to someone who is considering starting their own U.P. transformation?

I would say you need to go into it with your eyes open. It requires commitment, discipline, and a genuine desire to make a change. You need to reach a point in your life where you’re ready to make sacrifices and learn consistently. Consistency is the key. One crucial lesson I learned was that many people think going to the gym alone two or three times a week is enough.

But it’s much more than that. While the training at U.P. is undoubtedly the best I’ve ever experienced, it’s also about what you do outside of the gym. Pushing yourself to achieve 10,000 steps a day, engaging in other forms of cardio, staying active when you’re not at the gym – these factors contribute significantly.

Another valuable aspect is the continuous support and accountability that U.P. provides. The prompts you give daily help keep me on track, especially if I’ve deviated slightly from my nutrition plan. The daily accountability is powerful. It’s quite gratifying to receive messages acknowledging your efforts, like, “fantastic, Mike, you’ve hit your targets this week.” You wait for that response from your trainer, and when it arrives, you feel accomplished. It’s been a very positive experience. I’d recommend it to anyone. It’s an investment that’s truly worthwhile.
