Tell us about when and why you joined U.P. and how the issues were impacted during your time here.
I joined U.P. in early 2022 in the middle of the pandemic. I was in really bad shape and was carrying about 15-20 extra pounds of pandemic weight, and it showed.
So, I needed a change and decided to start working with Ultimate Performance.
How much was your body dragging down your self-confidence?
I wouldn’t say I was in the most confident mood I’ve ever been in. I was slightly out of shape before I came here and didn’t feel that good in my skin. The clothes didn’t feel as good as they normally do.
But then, once you start, you gain that confidence again. Your posture feels better, you feel more confident, you have more energy, and you sleep better.
Overall, it’s just a better way to live your life.
You are no stranger to fitness. How did U.P. compare to other gyms or trainers you’ve worked with?
So I’ve done CrossFit, and I’ve done weight training in gyms. What I found with U.P. is how efficient the workouts are. You don’t waste any time when you’re here.
It’s holistic. So you not only work out about three days a week, but you’re able to incorporate cardio workouts on your own, a meal plan, sleeping, water intake, etc.

Did the trainer-led approach work for you?
What’s really nice is that you come in and you meet with your trainer three days a week. He sets up the plan for you. He tells you what’s going to happen.
And then, remotely, he can pay attention to whether you are following the plan. If you’re not putting in the effort, you get some gentle reminders. In the end, it really does work.
So it may be an extra little thing you have to do on your day, but it becomes almost routine to the point where it appears seamless.
I felt very supported all through my time here. My trainer understood what my deficits were. He takes them into account, and he can centre the workouts so that they address those deficits.
So, one, you don’t hurt yourself as you are becoming stronger. But two, you develop an overall better physique. You’ll end up feeling better, and you’ll know you’re in good hands.
Were you surprised by how quickly you lost weight while simultaneously gaining muscle?
Yeah, actually, I was pretty surprised.
So as you know, the idea is that the more you eat, the heavier you are. The stronger you are, the more you can lift. And you’ll quickly learn at U.P. that’s not necessarily the case.
So as you become leaner and you improve your mobility and flexibility, you end up lifting more.
When you’ve done this a little while, you realise that just going into a gym and lifting as many weights as you possibly can, as heavy as you can, isn’t the best way to go.
So what you want to do, what I wanted to do anyways, was maintain strength.
I wanted a good physique and to maintain my flexibility. These are all things that as you get older, you think about more and more.
Has U.P. affected your day-to-day life and work?
Working with U.P. has improved my confidence, improved my mood, and improved my sleep.
It’s made me more productive at work, and it’s something that you can do that will break up your day. When you start at U.P., you don’t really know what you’re getting yourself into.
But after about the first month, you understand the rhythm of the place, and you understand how it all works together so you commit to it and stay consistent with it.
What’s really surprising is how quickly you’ll see the results, with as little time in the gym as you would spend if you went to one of the other gyms in the area. At three times a week, and doing everything else that you’re supposed to do, I found that I made progress a lot faster in the shortest amount of time.
It’s a fun place to work out too. The people are extremely nice. So you can take that throughout the rest of your day.
