38-year-old Doctor Ian couldn’t stop worrying about his sky-high blood pressure.

What motivated you to start training with Ultimate Performance?
I’ve been feeling really unhealthy for the longest time. I have some body image issues. I don’t feel confident standing in front of the mirror or looking at myself.
So, I really wanted to do something to transform how I look and how I feel, and get my health in better shape. I’ve tried many methods. I tried some online coaching.
I went through personal training as well, but nothing seemed to work for me.
How was U.P. different from your past experiences working with personal trainers?
I think the key difference is that my trainer was accountable. He made me accountable 24 hours a day.
So, any time I needed advice, any time I needed to ask about something, he was always there. And I thought that helped. So, to have somebody to be accountable to, I think it really made things different.
He was so certain that I would achieve what I wanted at the end of this period, and he never once had doubts. Whereas I always doubted if achieving this kind of result within this timeframe was possible. So, I think that really impressed me a lot.
How has your trainer helped you make lasting changes?
I think there is a whole host of information online where people will tell you, oh, one gram of protein will get you these many calories. But it is very difficult to actually apply it and get results from it.
So I get all these little tips and advice from my trainer. I think that really helped me form a particular eating habit and get better and healthier nutritional habits.
There’s also a lot of information that I need to filter through online. I think it’s so much easier when my trainer is actually beside me, with me, along the journey to guide me through it and tell me what to do and what not to do. I think this is something that I couldn’t achieve, even as a healthcare professional myself.
How has your time at U.P. changed your perception as a healthcare professional?
I used to think that if you are sick, you take medicine. But now, I think that exercise should really be part of the medicine prescribed to treat or even prevent certain diseases.
There’s this initiative spearheaded by the Sports Medicine Centre in Singapore that says exercise is medicine. This is a paradigm shift that all healthcare professionals should have.
So apart from the cholesterol-lowering and blood pressure-lowering medications, one should really get the patients to revamp their whole lifestyle, including exercise as part of their routine, to improve all these health parameters.
How has your transformation affected you personally?
I feel great. I used to look at my old clothes and think that one day I would fit into them again. So I didn’t throw them away.
Finally, that day has come. And I’m really happy to be able to squeeze into – not squeeze, they’re a perfect fit now – the clothes that I used to have many years back. Also, after these three months, I have seen my blood pressure drop. It has now normalised.
Also, I did recent blood work, and the cholesterol levels that used to be high now seem to have normalised. So I’m really excited and happy to see all these positive changes to my health.
My wife really applauds the effort that I put in. She’s pleased to see the changes, physical changes, as well as my health markers improving. Friends have given a lot of positive and encouraging feedback about how I’m looking now compared to before.
Overall, the experience and the results have been really positive.
Would you recommend U.P. to others?
Yes, definitely. Because, as I mentioned, they have this set program, everybody goes through it and actually gets results.
So my trainer never once doubted the efficacy of this program. So if you stick to it, you’ll definitely get results. There were highs and lows, but I stuck to the plan, and the results came in day after day.
The transformation I see in the mirror daily is something I don’t think I could have achieved outside of U.P.
