Businessman Darren always thought weight training was the sole preserve of bodybuilders.
But after seeing the incredible transformation his brother-in-law achieved training three times a week with Ultimate Performance, it piqued his interest.
Even though he did boxing training on and off, he travelled a lot, and his diet was poor so he just couldn’t lose the weight he wanted.
Unhappy with his current position and lack of progress, he felt he had nothing to lose in committing to doing his own transformation with U.P.
Despite the successive lockdowns, 49-year-old Darren accomplished results he could never have imagined, losing 13kg (28lbs).
“My mental side is a lot sharper and apart from the physical side of the training, I’ve got a newfound discipline.”

“I heard about U.P. from my brother-in-law, Josh, and I saw his before and after pictures, and quite honestly when I’ve heard about some of these courses before I thought a lot of it was a publicity stunt until I actually saw somebody that I knew and was blown away. I thought if he could do it, I can do it also.
“I had gone as far as I could go. I thought I plateaued at my previous weight which was 13 stone (82.5kg) and when I saw myself in the before photo, I was shocked at how out of shape I was.”
Coming to U.P. helped him break through this plateau and lose weight consistently week after week.
The approach to training with weights was a million miles away from anything he had done in a boxing gym before.

“My opinion of weight training before was that it was for bodybuilders. I realized that it is very important— probably more than cardio because it will build the muscle and help keep the muscle.
“The first 4-6 weeks was the hardest because although I was dropping a little bit of weight, I was struggling with my diet and lifestyle.”
But then things clicked for Darren and he began to build up the right habits for body transformation success with the guidance of his trainer.
“My attitude towards food changed. I saw food as a comfort, but when I joined U.P., it was more fuel that I needed to carry on with my journey.
“What I thought I knew about training went out the window because it was all false information and I now have an appreciation for the training methods that have been shown.
“I’m ready to take on the next step of my challenge. Mentally, I don’t wake up in the mornings as I used to – now I wake up with energy. With regards to my work life, I’m sharp until late in the day.”
The whole experience at U.P. has shaped Darren’s life not only physically but also mentally helping him discover the secret ingredient to succeeding at anything in life – both personally and professionally.
“When I saw the results the first time, I was blown away, and when I got my results, I showed them to people and they were like ‘Wow!’”
It wasn’t all plain sailing – especially with the national lockdown. But having a professional trainer and a world-class training system meant that his progress never stalled.
“We did encounter some issues at the time in U.P. — first was the national lockdown which could have halted me; I was mentally strong and I carried on with constant support from a trainer via messages.
“When I came back, I did have some issues physically — I can’t straighten my right arm so exercises like barbells, dumbbells, and chest press, I found difficult.
“I was very lucky that my trainer was able to adapt me to doing cable exercises which were fantastic and I got the results even with those tweaks and manage to overcome all obstacles.”
Accomplishing his incredible transformation, despite the many challenges, has proved that he has the willpower and motivation to achieve anything.
But Darren believes the most valuable thing he has taken from the process is the knowledge to maintain his training and diet for life.
“My trainer without doubt has given me the knowledge that I need to continue alone. I’ve got life lessons now which I never had before for diet and training.
“Just do it, because if you’re waiting for the right time or for the weight to drop first, they’re all excuses.
“You’ve just got to just take the plunge and do it, and I would say that the hardest bit is finding the mental willpower —which we’ve all got inside us. If I can do it, anybody can do it. Without any shadow of a doubt, it was worth every penny, it’s fantastic and value for money.”
