Just over 20 weeks ago, he was overweight, deeply unconfident, and suffered from severe psoriasis.

He could feel himself ageing, badly and couldn’t see a way back.

What was your motivation for signing up to Ultimate Performance?

The motivation was down to the fact that I had been diagnosed with psoriasis a couple of years ago. My health was deteriorating, and I needed to do something about it. My confidence before starting at Ultimate Performance was quite low, or at least I was experiencing highs and lows throughout the year. It wasn’t constant. I needed a push. I was more self-conscious about the fact that I was overweight and I was ageing. I couldn’t see a way out of it. I felt like it was spiralling out of control in a way, but U.P. gave me something to be hopeful about.

It has been a discovery because I wasn’t expecting to shed that much weight and see my abs. That had a massive effect on my confidence and state of mind. When I wake up in the morning, I’m happier and ready to face the day ahead.

How did your friends and family react to your transformation? Were they impressed?

The reactions have been very positive. It was quite evident that I had lost a considerable amount of weight. I had a lot of comments about how my skin looked in comparison to before joining U.P. I would get a lot of inflammation throughout my body because of psoriasis. I didn’t think getting in shape would have such a positive effect on my skin.

It wasn’t just about dropping weight. That was an obvious improvement that people noticed, but it was about looking healthier and ‘glowing’ as I’ve been told! The health aspect of this experience has been incredible. It drove me to carry on.

How did your previous experience of personal training stack up against Ultimate Performance?

It was a few years ago at a gym in Leeds. I hadn’t trained in more than 20 years, so I decided to do a 24-session program. I didn’t get anyway near the same results and the guidance and technology weren’t the same. The support that you get from your personal trainer at U.P. is incredible and I’ve never experienced anything like it. There’s been an incredible improvement in my focus and my self-awareness. I’m more organised and I’ve got noticeably more confidence.

Did you face any obstacles during your transformation? If so, tell us how you overcame them.

I had excruciating pain in my foot at one point. I developed plantar fasciitis and the pain moved into my knee. I was still struggling when I joined Ultimate Performance, but the pain has completely gone now. Strengthening the muscles in my legs has definitely improved my condition. No doubt.

How would you say this process has impacted your day-to-day life?

I have a much better sleeping pattern. I feel better in myself and people around me can notice a difference. I’m more pleasant to be around because before joining U.P. I was angry at the world. I was angry at life because things weren’t going well, but U.P. turned everything around for me. I’m much happier with my body and that’s reflected in my performance at work. It’s been a real transformation, not just physically, but emotionally and psychologically for me.

Finally, have you set yourself any goals for the future?

I’d love to take part in a half-marathon and training at U.P. has got me ready for that. I wish I had joined sooner because the results have been staggering. I no longer feel fatigued. I’m still packed full of energy at the end of the day which never used to be the case.
