At 37, Jun was running on empty. Long hours helping his ageing parents at their food stall left him exhausted, overweight, and deeply frustrated with his body. The physical toll of years without structure was catching up fast – and he knew something had to give.
Tired of feeling grumpy and sluggish, Jun joined Ultimate Performance to build a body that could support both his work and his family.
What followed was a remarkable 16-week transformation where he shed 11kg (24 lbs), regained boundless energy, and fell in love with food again – this time with control and confidence.
Now thriving on the gym floor and at the stove, Jun shares how expert coaching, food ‘hacks’, and unwavering accountability helped him reset every aspect of his life.
What made you realise you needed to change?
“My parents are getting old, and I’d been working with my family business to help them in the hawker store, selling local food and local dishes.
“During that time, I was so fat and everything was draining, and I was very grumpy because of my body, so I decided to make a change. I think I needed to make a huge change, so that I could have the body that supports me to help my parents and support my family members. I believed that U.P. could help me change my life for the better.”
What differences do you see when you look in the mirror now?
“It’s a huge change. I was very heavy, like almost like 80kg… I felt damn fat and ugly. Disgusting. Now it’s like a total change with my energy levels. It’s like I have a whole day from morning until night where I still feel energetic, even after training.”
How has your transformation impacted your life?
“In the past, when I was working, I was fat, and I couldn’t do a lot of stuff. Everything seemed very difficult – impossible to accomplish – or even get started. Now it’s like the total opposite. It’s like wow, I’ve got extra abundance of energy that can help me to keep going on even if I don’t feel like doing it, but my body is like, ‘hey, come on, keep going!’
So now I can do a lot of things in the past that seems to be impossible. I’m very happy. I’m able to do things joyfully and accomplish the stuff that I couldn’t do before.”
What improvements have you seen in the gym?
“I couldn’t even do one or two pull-ups before. Now I can do them with 10-15kg weights for eight reps.
“With the chest press, I could only do 5kg or 10kg, but now I can go up to 35kg (dumbbells) doing like three to five heavy reps. My goal now is to keep getting stronger.”
Could you have done this on your own without your trainer?
“It would have taken me so many years like to even get through the trial and error with not knowing what to do.
“Because of my trainer’s guidance, I have finally found the type of food that I can stick to consistently. I’ve learned how to plan out my meals properly and effectively.
I just love the ‘food hacks’ that he shared with me, and that is why I’ve been able to stick to it for so long. At this moment, I am enjoying all the foods joyfully now and the taste are superb!
Everything became easy because of the right guidance, and that’s how I got from 30% (body fat) to like 10% in 16 weeks. I’m very happy with it.”
What’s one thing you valued most about your trainer?
“What I like most about my trainer is that he was just like a living encyclopaedia! All the random questions that I throw at him. He is just able to provide me with a logically answers and helping me to understand the logic behind it.”

What kind of support did your trainer provide to help you stay on track?
“Every time when I was about to go ‘off track’, for some reason, my trainer was able to spot it and pull me back to stay on track. The accountability and support I get is just superb!”
What’s the most important thing you’ve learned during this journey?
“I discovered that during the hard times, how I could handle my emotions, and how I could work out joyfully even when it seemed tough or impossible. It’s helped me understand more about myself physically and emotionally.
There’s been so much change in my life in three months. Now I can see that if I keep going and be consistent, I’m going to have huge changes throughout my life with these good new habits, and with understanding more about myself, my body, and nutrition. I am very grateful to Harry, my trainer. He’s like a rock star.”
