“I’ve now lost 77lbs. I didn’t expect to lose anywhere near that when I first started. I’ve never had a six-pack in my life, and I didn’t think I ever would.
“I’m now able to enjoy time with my kids and my family without feeling drained. I feel like I’ve got a lot more energy with my three daughters, who are all under the age of nine.
“I’m organising more things with the kids and getting them more involved in sports.”
Here, Carlos speaks about how his trainer has completely overhauled his relationship with alcohol, the simple yet life-changing approach of U.P., and how other clients at U.P. inspired him.
What motivated you to begin working with U.P.?
Throughout lockdown, the big thing that changed in my life was food. I wasn’t eating properly, I was drinking too much and doing a lot less exercise. A combination of those three things meant I gained weight, so that was the reason I signed up. I felt I needed to get everything back on track, but I didn’t expect to be in the shape I’m in now.
What was your goal when you started working with your trainer?
I’ve now lost 77lbs. I didn’t expect to lose anywhere near that when I first started. I’d lost weight in the past and considered myself in good shape before, but U.P. was better than anything I’ve ever done before. When I first partnered with my trainer, I didn’t believe I could reach the goals we set in place.
I just wanted to go back to wearing smaller clothes. I looked at the results wall at U.P. and saw the transformations of people with six-packs. I’ve never had a six-pack in my life, and I didn’t think I ever would. So, my actual goal when I started was just to lose weight, but as time went on and I started seeing better results, I began to think, “actually I can take this further.”
How did you find your training plan and what changes have you seen?
Once I have a plan, I’m pretty good at sticking to it. My diet was hard at first because it was such a significant change from what I was used to. But I was absolutely fine with it, and in the end, my transformation has changed my relationship with alcohol. I honestly don’t think I’ll ever go back to drinking as much as I did before. I’ll still enjoy a glass of wine or a pint of beer every now and again, but my relationship with food and drink has really improved.
How has your life improved now that you’ve finished your transformation?
I’m now able to enjoy time with my kids and my family without feeling drained. I feel like I’ve got a lot more energy with my three daughters, who are all under the age of nine. I used to be quite sedentary and would happily sit on the sofa for hours. Now, if I sit down for a while, I feel like I need to be doing something. I’m organising more things with the kids and getting them more involved in sports.
My transformation has completely changed my mindset. It’s not as hard as you think – it does take sacrifice, but you can happily say at the end of it that it was all absolutely worth it. I plan on keeping this healthy lifestyle up and applying what I’ve learned not just to my health and fitness – but to other areas of my life.
