Work pressures had left father-of-two Brian feeling more stressed than ever before, as he struggled to balance his career, parenthood and his health.

His demanding job in technology and government communications ultimately led to him sacrificing his health, given the mental load he was facing.

Having trained in the past, 45-year-old Brian realised he needed an all-encompassing approach to health and fitness to get him on track so he could be more present and energetic for his family’s sake.

After entrusting Ultimate Performance to guide him through his body transformation journey, his trainer has given him the tools to not only take back control of his health, but also his life.

Now over 24kg down, Brian has set an example to his young children aged 10 and 7 and is unrecognisable from his former self.

With his newfound concentration and confidence, his trainer has taught him the ingredients of what makes a sustainable training plan and how to achieve maximum results in the minimum time possible.

“It’s easy to push your health aside when you’ve got an intense job and you’re a dad. There’s just so much on your mind.

“Working with U.P. has really taught me some discipline, a reasonable plan and something that I can take with me over time.

“It really helps to have a trainer to show you how to transform your body, keep track of your journey and hold you accountable. I couldn’t have done this without him.”

Here, Brian speaks about U.P.’s close attention to detail and how his trainer’s support and expertise kept him accountable throughout his transformation.

What was the turning point in your life when you realised you needed to make a change?

I had so many lightbulb moments and low points. The problem is those low points just kept getting lower and lower. I think it was the pandemic and quarantine which focused the mind and forced me to pay attention to my fitness (or lack thereof) in a way that was all too easy to ignore when life was normal.

It’s easy to push your health aside when you’ve got an intense job and you’re a dad and there’s just so much on your mind. I’m a workaholic by nature, always have been, but working from home during the pandemic I realised now might be the best chance I’ll ever have to figure out how to make a change.

How would you compare yourself from day one of your transformation to now?

There’s no comparison. Five months on and there’s a world of difference. My nutrition is much cleaner and much healthier, my weight has come way down and my mind is much clearer now.

On top of this, I’d say my concentration and appearance are better. It’s crossed over into all aspects of my life. For example, I’ve got much better concentration at work, my quality of sleep has improved and I’ve just found myself having more motivation now.

Have you ever done any sort of weight training before?

Over the years I have trained before, so I really should have known better. I knew this time around I would need something more intensive than my efforts before, because I was more exhausted and stressed than ever.

I was going to need a more all-encompassing approach to keep me on track. You keep thinking, if I can just get more time or sleep, then I’ll get it together or “when life calms down I’ll get this under control.”

But I had just turned 45, my job was as demanding as ever and I wanted to be present and energetic for my family. Life wasn’t going to slow down and wait for me to find a balance: I had to figure out how to strike that balance with the help of U.P.

What are the most powerful lessons you’ve learned about training and nutrition since working with U.P?

This wasn’t the first time I’ve trained or worked out, and I thought I knew about my nutrition. In reality, I was depriving myself, cutting calories and doing things that never lasted. Working with U.P. has really taught me some discipline, a reasonable plan and something that I can take with me over time.

I learned the science behind building muscle and nutrition in a way that I had never before. I also learned about macros, reps and supplements, all things that I thought I knew a little bit about, but didn’t have a clue about.

What did you learn from your U.P. trainer?

I can honestly say he taught me everything. I thought I knew what to do but I didn’t have a clue about how to train smartly or achieve results for the long haul.

My trainer taught me nutrition and the science, proper technique, and would always remind me to slow down on the reps and listen to his count. He introduced me to the right supplements and taught me accountability, discipline and commitment.

Knowing that he was checking my daily progress through the Ultimate Performance app, reviewing everything I ate, all the cardio I did at home, everything I did, making sure I hit those daily goals: that kind of attention kept me motivated.

What separates your U.P. trainer from trainers that you have used in the past?

What’s different about U.P. is there’s a real relationship between me and my trainer. We got to know each other very well from the beginning, and he took the time to get to know my body and my lifestyle and my goals, and really talk to me and learn about me.

That one-on-one relationship really helped me and it was like having a person who knew you. He probably knows what I eat and how I sleep better than anyone in my life at this point.

That discipline that my trainer taught me and realising that you have a partner through this and you’re not alone, was very beneficial.
