“The results are worth it! If you follow the program and follow what your trainer says, you will get there. I can 100% guarantee that.”

Before U.P., Wee Ping was travelling a lot for work and often had to eat out, which made it difficult to always choose the healthiest foods.

Although he’d partaken in sports activities during his time at high school and college, these had fallen by the wayside as working became his main priority. Going to the gym was a thing of the past.

Having seen a friend’s success with Ultimate Performance, he looked into the process in a bid to become leaner and stronger too.

He’s now lost 7kg in 20 weeks and transformed his body with eye-catching lean muscle… so much so, that some friends and family think he is a different person entirely!

In this Q&A, Wee Ping speaks about the importance of discipline and how he’s learned to stay strong in the face of temptation…

Before and After Personal Training - Wee Ping - Front | Ultimate Performance

What was your biggest motivation and the reason you decided to join U.P?

I joined U.P. on the recommendation of a friend. I wanted to reduce my body fat percentage and to increase my strength. I saw his transformation and talked about my objectives, and he told me this was the best place to achieve my goal in the most efficient way possible.

?Had you trained in a gym prior to joining Ultimate Performance?

Back in high school and college I did track and field (high jump), so I trained in a gym to primarily focus on leg work. I also did some cheerleading so then I focused on my upper body and shoulder muscle groups, but once I started work, I stopped going to the gym.

What were your impressions of what you could achieve from the initial consultation, and do you think you’ve achieved what you aimed for?

I remember clearly that on day one I wasn’t sure what my target body fat percentage should be, but there were some pictures, so I chose 12% and I’m glad to say that I’ve actually gone a little bit lower than that.

From a strength point of view, I have gained a lot more strength and I can see my progress in terms of pull-ups. From day one, I’ve seen progression and improvement with all the exercises I’ve undertaken. For example, the weight of the dumbbell compared to what I’m pushing today. I can do many levels more than what I used to be able to.

Gaining muscle was one of your goals. What are some of your favourite exercises that have helped you pack on muscle?/strong>

The main exercises that have helped me gain muscle are dumbbell chest press, pull ups, bicep curls, and the shoulder press.

You eat a lot on the go because you travel for work. How did you find making those dietary changes?

Coming into U.P., my weakness was food because I travel quite frequently for work. I have a lot of business lunches and dinners. It wasn’t easy to change or to get into a habit of checking the menu and consulting with my trainer before I went out for meals. Snacking was another of my weaknesses. I really liked to snack a lot at the office. The pantry always had lots of snacks available, so that was a very difficult change and transition, but in the end, it boils down to discipline and how much you want it. I’m glad I was able to train and overcome those weaknesses.

I mainly travelled to Australia though which has plenty of healthy food options. I think at the end of the day it pays to plan and do some research prior to travelling and discuss with your trainer.

How does your day-to-day diet look now?

I generally skip breakfast, so I have a protein shake and a coffee in the morning. If I’m really hungry then I’ll eat chicken breast from 7-11am. After that, it’s either salad or prepared meals. If I’ve not had enough protein during the day, then I’ll sometimes end with another protein shake.

Now I’m in the bulking phase, I’m researching a lot about steak as it’s high in protein and contains moderate fat which complements my love for carb-heavy food like bread and sweet items.

What are 3 lessons you’ve learned at Ultimate Performance?

1. Food has to be planned

2. There is no such thing as motivation, yes it gets you started but discipline keeps you going on along the way

3. It’s very important to have a good trainer. My trainer Ming was instrumental in my journey and I’m not sure if I could find anyone else like him.

How has your body changed during the process?

I can see a lot of physical improvement both on the outside and from a muscular strength point of view. I’m a lot leaner and I have visible abs now. I’ve also gained a lot of strength, especially where pull-ups are concerned. I came in only able to do one pull-up maximum. That was difficult. Now I can easily do three sets of 10.

It’s great that you’ve noticed so many changes. What was your friends and family’s reaction to your transformation?

I have had various reactions from my family and friends, but generally when people haven’t seen me for a long time, they think I’m a different person. Or they’ll ask me why I’m so skinny. That makes me think I’ve achieved my objectives. Generally, I think they’re happy that I’m on this fitness journey. I’ve shared a lot of my experience with them, and I think that’s also helped inspire a few of them to start their fitness journey.

How do you feel after seeing your before and after photos?

I was honestly very surprised because all I did was just follow the U.P. process. My trainer taught me to do each bit day-by-day. It was not a sudden transformation, but it was a gradual one and the results just came over time as I continued to do my daily walks. When I compare my before and after pictures, there’s a huge difference in my opinion. I think the results are worth it.

You joined U.P. through a friend referral. Would you recommend it to others?

Yes. I’ve introduced one of my friends already and he had a very long chat with my trainer. I think he’s still considering it because it’s a big investment, but I encourage everybody to seriously consider joining.

Would you say your trainer has helped you achieve your goals?

No amount of words can express the gratitude that I have for my trainer for pushing me all the way from day one until now. And I look forward to many more years of this fitness journey together with my trainer and with U.P.

What advice would you give to others who are considering starting their fitness journey with Ultimate Performance?

I don’t think there’s a lot of motivation involved. Maybe on day one, but after that, it’s all discipline and it requires a commitment of time and effort. I think you need to really consider whether you’re ready before joining. However, the good news is that if you follow the program and follow what your trainer says, you will get there. I can 100% guarantee that.
