Director James said his physical condition was affecting him mentally after the second lockdown in the UK.
Poor discipline had seen 41-year-old James lose touch with a body he was once happy with.
Eating large portion sizes, drinking too much alcohol and consuming too many calories, he confessed he wasn’t giving his diet the right thought.
Having previously worked with U.P. and achieved outstanding transformation results, James knew U.P. would give him the accountability back he needed to put his lockdown lifestyle behind him.
After contacting the U.P. team, eight weeks on James found himself in the shape of his life. James managed to lose 6kg and significantly reduce his body fat percentage, a process which he described as bringing back a level of discipline into his life.

“What I’ve been set by my trainer here in the gym affects the rest of my life, just having a goal and sticking to something.”
Here, James speaks to us about what motivated him to go back to his old self, staying on track while following a diet plan and the other benefits he has seen from his time working with U.P.
What was your motivation to join U.P.?
My motivation to join U.P. was coming out of the second lockdown, where I’d just fallen into the trap that many people had of not focusing on their diet or lifestyle. So having been with U.P. a couple of years ago, I knew that it was the focus and discipline that I needed to get back in my life. U.P. was the way to do it because I respond to accountability, so that’s why I came back.
Before I joined the way I felt was that having been in shape before, I knew I was out of shape. Maybe by global standards, I wasn’t too bad, but just internally and in the mirror I could see that I wasn’t happy with what I saw, which was affecting me mentally as well. Visually, I was too fat and lost some muscle, so that’s really what I wanted to address.
What did you enjoy most about working with your trainer?
Before I started the program, my nutrition was subpar. Too many calories, too many carbs, portion sizes were too big, and too much alcohol. I would say during the process, what I learned and enjoyed most was the method behind the exercises and pushing myself to the limit, I really enjoy that bit. This time I also enjoyed learning why we were doing the exact exercises from my trainer.
What has been your main takeaway from working with Ultimate Performance?
This time around I learned more about the process and what it’s taken to produce the transformation that I see in the mirror. I think that’s probably going to help me sustain the shape that I’ve got in now that I know why I was doing the exercises and how to perform them correctly.
How important was the diet plan and advice in helping to achieve your desired goal?
My trainer set me a great diet that worked for me, it was achievable both in macros and calories, so I think that’s how we managed to stay on track. We did do some workouts, but it was mainly the diet, I think that saved us in that period.
The devil on your other shoulder says why are you even going through with this tough diet, which is where your trainer comes in. If you communicate those thoughts, which I did, then I think it’s good because you have a dialogue about why you’re doing it and they motivate you to keep going. I’m very glad that I kept on track, my results are exactly what I could have hoped for and more.
Aside from your physical transformation, have you seen any other benefits?

I decided to do a photoshoot just to have an added motivation to make me stick to it and maybe push that a little bit harder than I did last time.
