So, Shashank, why did you decide to start your own personal training program at U.P.?
I was recommended by a couple of friends who had been doing it for only a few weeks, but were already experiencing significant changes in their physical and mental health. After that, I checked out Ultimate Performance’s website, which was what pushed me over the edge to decide to go for it.
I am a numbers person and like to know precisely what I will get back for my investment. The website showed me that the program was scientifically designed, which motivated me to go for it.
Tell us about some of the major obstacles you faced during your transformation.
The major obstacles I faced at the beginning were mainly around moving over from the lifestyle and diet I used to have. My previous lifestyle included a lot of alcohol and fried foods, which initially made it challenging to adjust to the program.
However, after the first two to three weeks, the results started coming quickly, and it was no longer a sacrifice, but something I looked forward to doing.
As a result, I stuck to the diet that would bring me to my goals. Overcoming the obstacles came from good performance, encouraging results, and seeing myself in the mirror every day.
What did your diet look like before you started working with your U.P. trainer?
As an Indian, I love Indian food. I find it delicious, but it tends to be greasy and in truth not part of an ideal diet. So, I knew I’d have to make some adjustments when I started my training program which was tough. But once I started seeing the results in just a couple of weeks, the obstacles that I was facing turned into motivation.
You mentioned you’ve worked with personal trainers in the past. How much different did you find training with Ultimate Performance?
The personal training at U.P. is very different from what I’ve experienced in the past. It’s like playing cricket at school compared to playing cricket at an international level. The goals are different.
I read on your website a very good compliment from Men’s Fitness that U.P. is the Goldman Sachs, Apple, and Real Madrid of personal training, and that’s how I would describe it. It’s very holistic, not just focused on specific parts. Other personal trainers I’ve had focused on getting my biceps up a few inches, but not on general well-being and holistic transformation of the body.

How would you say the level of accountability that U.P. provides is different from normal training?
The accountability and persistence of my trainer and all the U.P. trainers are much higher than what I’ve experienced in the past.
Whenever I walk into my U.P. gym, everyone pretty much knows my name. It’s great to be greeted by everyone. Everyone knows what the other clients in the group are doing.
If I want to know if I can have something, like for example, for a marriage I had to attend in between my 16-week transformation, then we plan it out well in advance. We discuss it thoroughly, not only before going, but each day when I was there.
Being in constant touch with your trainer who’s aiding you in your transformation encourages you all the time. It’s different from going to the gym, lifting a few weights and then losing track of your goals.
