Richard could feel his fitness fading away and his body weight creep up as he headed towards 30.
‘Get a six-pack’ was a goal on his bucket list to tick off before his milestone 30th birthday.
Wanting to get stronger, leaner and build more muscle, he put his goal in the hands of the professionals at Ultimate Performance.
Richard says it was a weight off his shoulders having an expert handle all the thinking on his diet and training.
All he had to do was follow the plan, put 100% effort in at the gym and he got the results he wanted.
Not only did he lose 6kg and build his ideal physique, but the process taught him discipline and how to form positive habits in all areas of his life.
“If you want to see an almost guaranteed change in your physique, if you’ve got goals that you want to hit, then you know that’s when you need the help of the U.P. trainers.
“It’s almost guaranteed when working with U.P. – you feel like you will hit those goals.
“The knowledge and the skills that come with the trainers is just invaluable. It’s very hard to find that and get that in other places.”
Here Richard talks about his motivations, his experience training with professionals, and the transformative benefits of weight loss he never expected.
What was your motivation for joining Ultimate Performance?
My motivation for joining U.P. was to look stronger, a little bit broader and lose a bit of weight. I was beginning to feel like I was losing my fitness. There was a sign of me getting injured, not regularly, but more often. I just wanted to put a complete stop to that. I’ve always had a goal, a bucket list, and I had ‘six-pack before I’m 30’ on it. So, it was pretty good that I’ve achieved that.
What are the trainers like at Ultimate Performance?
The trainers are really great. They are really knowledgeable and really great at pushing you. The best bit is when you walk in the gym, there is no doubt whether you’re going to have a really hard, really solid session. You know you will always come out of the gym, having worked hard enough to make those gains and to hit the goals that were set out initially.
There is no worry; the workout is taken completely out of your hands. You walk into U.P., and there is no way you’re coming out of the gym without having a decent session. You can just forget about the programming side of the training because the trainers handle it for you.
What is it like training at U.P.?
The atmosphere at U.P. is really good. On the first day, I was questioning, “What’s this going to be like?”. I thought it might be a little intimidating. You see the before and after pictures everywhere, and you think, ‘Oh, everyone in here is amazing.’
At the beginning of your journey, of course, you are not in the shape that you want to be, but it’s super welcoming. All the trainers say hello and they know your name. They all encourage you towards your goals. It’s a really good atmosphere.
How has your lifestyle changed since joining U.P.?
I feel so much better now. Physically, I’m super happy with the results. I worked really hard, and I’m over the moon with the results.
With my trainer, we talked a lot about the physical side but also the mental side that comes with this. U.P. has really provided me with an escape from work and a place to focus on my goals and my training. That’s been really valuable to reduce stress levels and obviously increase fitness levels at the same time.
What was your reaction is seeing your before and after pictures?
I’m really excited about the results. They’re really, really good. I’m really impressed with where I’ve come on this journey.
Speaking to my friends and family, everyone’s noticing a difference. Yes, in terms of muscle, but energy levels and confidence, posture. So many different areas have just all gone up, and the net positive is just through the roof, really.
What was the biggest lesson you learnt during your transformation?
Apart from the physical changes, this transformation has taught me a lot about discipline. So, having a regime, sticking to the regime, habit building. All those skills are transferable; they’re not just for weightlifting. Whether it’s saving money or whatever habit or routine you might want, U.P. has taught me a lot about habit building, how to hold yourself accountable but also how to reward yourself when it is going well. How to make it realistic, and how to be dedicated in the long term. This impacts every day, doing things the right way, and you can take that to other areas of your life.
Would you recommend Ultimate Performance?
Yeah, I’d definitely recommend U.P.’s service.
So if you want to explore the possibilities for your physique, or whatever goal you have; building muscle or losing weight, then I definitely recommend speaking with the U.P. trainers and figuring out how they can help with a conversation; get comfortable with the methodology and the routine, and just chat with them and they’ll tell you what the expectations are and what you could expect to achieve at the end.
How important was it to have a dedicated trainer working alongside you?
I definitely would not have the results without my trainer. The training was almost the easy part of the entire process. Once you’re in the gym, I could just rely on my trainer. I could get into the mode, and I felt very confident that my trainer had advised me to do the right things, and I know I just do what my trainer says.
At the end of the session, it’s perfect. You are never cruising, nor are they pushing too hard, risking you getting injured.
I don’t have to think about any of that; my trainer handled that all for me. Walking into the gym, although obviously, it’s physically the hardest part of the whole process, feels easy because you could just switch off, and the trainer just handles it.
- We show you the best, we don't show you the worst.
- We show you people who follow the plans, not those who are all talk.
- We show you those who inspire even us with their commitment to their results.
- You cannot get results exactly like these. You are unique and that means you can only get your own best possible results.
- Your results are a function of time spent following the plan; your genetic response to the right exercise and diet program; how hard you train; how consistently you come to the gym; how disciplined you are with your diet; & your starting point.
- Oftentimes the lower your starting point (poor fitness, terrible body composition) the better your results.
- We cannot do the work for you and the results you see here are a testament to the work ethic of our clients.
