Will’s globe-trotting job in motorsport meant he struggled to put the brakes on his spiralling weight gain.

As an engineer for a global race team, he would regularly work intense 15-hour days for six months of the year.

Spells away from home in Asia and America led him to believe that balancing a healthy diet and exercise routine were completely unrealistic.

Upon his return to the UK at the end of race season, 25-year-old Will was ready to invest in his health and recruit a proven personal trainer who could give him results.

Under the watchful eye of Ultimate Performance, in just 21 weeks Will became lean, confident and learned how to craft a long-term diet plan he could take across the globe.

Having never trained in the past, Will’s 18kg transformation taught him the key principles of weight training. He now considers himself in the best shape of his life courtesy of his bespoke U.P. plan.

“This is the most control I’ve ever had over my body. I look my best and I’m probably in the best physical condition of my life. I want to stay like this for as long as possible.”

Here, Will speaks about how simple lifestyle tweaks, as advised by his trainer, made a huge difference to his physique. Plus, Will highlights how impressed he was by the timescale of his life-changing transformation.

What was your motivation to join Ultimate Performance?

I wanted to get into a routine. When I was younger, I played a lot of football and kept fit. But when I started my new job in motorsport, I lived on my own in Leeds. So, I ended up going out and didn’t really think about what I was eating.

I noticed throughout the year I put some weight on and quickly realised that I needed to change my life. I could sense that my body was changing, just because I didn’t feel as fit on walks and while I was playing football.

How did your job impact your transformation?

The difficulty of my job is that I go away for one, two or three weeks at a time. I travel to Asia for a month, then America for a month so I really wanted to transform my body while I was back in the UK.

My transformation was quite intense, and I pushed as hard as I could for the time I was here. It was good that it was two or three days a week. You’re with a trainer who you could plan your life around. I just wanted to get fitter and lose weight to look more trim and more built.

How active were you before joining U.P.?

Before I started my transformation, I was very lethargic and felt heavy every morning. When I was younger, I played football three or four days a week, so I was very fit. But as I said, when I moved to Leeds I didn’t do any exercise.

I’d never really been in a gym before, I’d had a few PT sessions in the past, although it was nothing serious. At the start of my transformation, I started playing football again.

That’s probably when I realised how unfit I was because I couldn’t do things that I used to be able to do. That really motivated me to join U.P.

Following your transformation, what have you learned about diet and nutrition?

Before I started at U.P., I didn’t have a great understanding of food. I knew that you had to get a balance of carbs and protein, but I didn’t pay too much attention to it. After working with U.P., I have much more of an understanding and know exactly what I need to eat.

I’ve learned how water affects me and how I need good sleep for everything to digest. When I buy food now, I think ‘what is this going to do to me’? It’s great to learn about things that you should hold onto your whole life.

In terms of your physical condition, is this the happiest you have ever been with your body?

This is the most control I’ve ever had over my body. I look my best and I’m probably in the best physical condition of my life. I want to stay like this for as long as possible. When I started, I was pretty hard on myself and was annoyed with my form and how I looked.

I just felt very disappointed with where I was with my body. Now, my form is a lot better and my mindset is strong. I know what I need to do to make a change to my physique and understand that there is a lot more progress to make.

Do you think you will be able to apply what you’ve learned to your life while you are away?

Once you get into a routine it’s quite easy to manage it. You pre-plan your food and you pre-plan when you’re going to go out.

It’s all about being sensible with what you’re going to do. U.P. have made me realise If you minimise your intake of the bad stuff and maximise your input of the good stuff, you will get results.

Finally, how did you find training in our U.P. gym?

The environment in the gym was very good. Everyone has got their own trainer and is focused on their own goals.

The gym is also very clean and tidy and all the machines are available to use whenever you need them. Everything that I’ve learned here I could take to any other gym I go to in the future.
