Stuck on a fitness plateau, Oliver was looking for a way to up his game and get in shape.

So when his girlfriend showed him the transformation photos on the Ultimate Performance website, he jumped at the chance to try something new and radical.

Oliver was a gym regular who has been weight training for years but needed a stint at U.P. to really achieve his dream physique.

He joined U.P. with his girlfriend for a structured body transformation programme and stripped fat off to achieve a lean and ripped frame he always wanted.

“My girlfriend works about four buildings down the road from U.P.

“She walked past U.P. on her way to work and saw all these pictures of transformations outside which immediately grabbed her attention.

“We were both looking to get fitter and signed up together.”

The ‘secret sauce’ for success at U.P. is the partnership between trainer and client which creates a bond of accountability to get results.

But Oliver had an extra layer of accountability and motivation training alongside his girlfriend at U.P.

It made his transformation journey that little bit more special and they helped each other through any challenges along the way.

“You have way more accountability with another person.

“When one is struggling, the other can sort of give them strength and especially for me, it was useful because I don’t do much cooking, so my girlfriend basically prepared all of our dishes together as our diet plans were quite similar.

“I couldn’t have managed without her!”

“We even see each other training at the same time, and that gives you that extra bit of motivation.

“Also, for cardio, it’s good because one of the things that U.P. recommends is a lot of walking. Going for walks with a partner is just way more fun!”

Oliver had been working out for years and was no stranger to gym settings. He didn’t expect U.P.’s approach to be radically different but was surprised when he saw how some basic tweaks to foundational elements could make a huge difference to the final outcome.

“The training I’ve done before was three days a week – one day chest and triceps, one day back and biceps and one day legs and shoulders. I would always go for six reps or so.

“To be honest, I’ve stagnated for quite some time. For a year, I’ve been on roughly the same weights, and because I was going quite heavy with a lot of compound exercises and my form wasn’t great, I used to injure my back all the time doing deadlifts.

“Here at U.P., the emphasis is on a full-body workout. We started with higher rep ranges, so that was completely different from what I was used to, with much shorter breaks in between sets. After a couple of weeks of adjusting, I just preferred it!”

“The other thing they focus on here is form, and they pick exercises that suit your body type. I found out that some exercises, like the deadlift, aren’t suitable for my body shape and I can injure myself doing them! For my entire time training at U.P., I didn’t pick up even one injury, which I almost definitely would have done with my old P.T.”

Along with an immediate uptick in his body aesthetic and overall fitness, Oliver also unexpectedly found himself getting into a healthier lifestyle and routine.

“I was drinking way too much in the old days. I would have like 3 or 4 beers every evening just to relax. Whereas now, most days I won’t have anything, and then if I do drink 2-3 feels like enough to sort of have a good time and relax.

“I never really did much walking in the past; I always sort of viewed it as an inconvenience but especially in the lockdown period when there’s not a whole lot else to do, you going for a walk was pretty fun. I discovered so many parts of where I live that I had never seen before. And doing it with my girlfriend was special.”Oliver is heading home for a time after his transformation – but he’s safe in the knowledge that he has the tools to maintain his new physique and fitness levels for life.

“I’m going back home, but it’s not like I’m going to lose it all. I want to just maintain where I’m at now and pick it back up when I come back.

“I think the most positive thing for me is that this is actually sustainable. With many programmes, you lose weight and then when you’re done you put it back on. U.P. teaches you not just how to lose weight, but also how to maintain it.”
