After 10 months of staying indoors and working from home, 36-year-old Meriem had hit rock bottom.

Working in front of her laptop day and night she gained weight and started feeling depressed.

She began to realise that she needed an immediate change after lockdown, but did not know how to dig herself out of a real low point in her life.

Meriem put her health in the hands of the experts at Ultimate Performance and her holistic program has helped transform the way she feels both physically and mentally.

Through a combination of targeted weight training and personalised nutritional advice, Meriem lost 12.6kg and rediscovered her happiness.

Such an achievement has put her firmly back in control of her mental health and ensured she is able to manage her endometriosis, a condition which can cause pain, irregular periods and even infertility for millions of women.

After seeking a partner for over 10 years, Meriem now has also found someone ‘perfect’ for her, something she says wouldn’t have been possible without the life-changing impact of her transformation.

“I’ve now got that self-confidence that I’ve always wanted to have. This whole journey has just pulled me out of that very low point where I was when we first began.

“I am much happier. Honestly, I have built a body that I never ever had in my life.

“I have a quite difficult health condition called endometriosis, it’s very well maintained since I’m working out.”

Here Meriem explains how she learned the principles of nutrition and developed the tools to better control her endometriosis naturally.

What was life like for you before you started working with Ultimate Performance?

I was quite lonely, and I really wanted to have a relationship. I’ve been waiting for someone to come into my life for the past 10-plus years. In the past six months, I have met someone perfect for me, and I’m sure that a large part of that is down to the self-confidence that I now have.

I also feel like my vibe has completely changed and the energy that I give off could have attracted him. I would say that’s one of the main things, but other things include the fact that I’m now extremely fit. Physically, I feel really strong and I cook which had never been a part of my life before.

How would you describe yourself before working with a U.P. trainer?

I was lazy and did very little physical activity, I’d usually sit in my apartment a lot with no plan or pre-planning of what to eat during the day. I would often just prepare whatever I found and made it as quickly as possible. I definitely was at a very low point, at a very dark place when I first contacted you. The main motivation was I didn’t feel comfortable in my body, and I wanted that to change. I wanted to gain self-confidence that I never had in my life.

I have a quite difficult health condition called endometriosis, it’s very well maintained since I’m working out. I didn’t have my period for a very long time when we first talked. I think after a couple of months, maybe two, three, I started to have my period again, and I can say it’s more or less regular since then.

How did your life change after your body transformation?

My mindset is definitely much more positive now. I’ve learned a lot of things about myself and what I’m capable of, and it has had a positive impact on other areas of my life as well.

Feeling low all of the time was very depressing and I just had no idea what would bring me out of that low point, but I hated it. When I contacted U.P., that was the point when I felt like, okay, this should stop.

What was the key thing you’ve learned from your time working with U.P.?

I sought advice from a dietician before I worked with U.P. What I’ve heard from the dietician and what I’ve learned from you guys are two completely different things. According to the dietician, she said calories do not really count, which was already strange for me to hear at that time.

But of course, why would I question a professional’s advice? What I’ve learned from U.P. is the calorie deficit indeed counts, and nutrition is what is needed to be able to perform at the gym.

What would you say to women who are afraid to start weight training?

Don’t be afraid of weight training at all. I think it’s amazing to see how much stronger I’ve become. I never felt that it is something evil and will mean I become pumped. I knew that in order achieve the lean body that I wanted, I needed to lift weights, and women should definitely not be afraid of it.
