Why you contacted UP in the first place:
For years I had been lazy with my lifestyle, going to the pub every day, loading myself with beers, wine, carbs and saturated fat which resulted in health check results showing aggravating obesity, cholesterol and high blood pressure levels. And I’m not even talking about the way I looked.
Obviously I had been thinking to do something about it for years and never did, save for taking a membership to a high street gym where I never went… Ultimately, my weight reached 100kg for 178cm and for some reason there is something psychological with 100… But more importantly my wife got pregnant for our second child and that was the trigger for me to really do something.
Never went on a diet before or had personal training session but I knew I would never achieve anything on my own. Not only I had absolutely no idea about what to do with regard to training or diet or anything else related to that. I also knew that maintaining focus and motivation would be difficult. Many people would tell me that I should just eat less and run regularly but I was not convinced. I hated running on a treadmill so much that I was sure it would not work for me.
I needed real professional advice and started to look for personal training on Internet. Very quickly I luckily found out about UP and reading through the website and Nick Mitchell’s blog I was captivated. For the first time I really started to think: “these guys could make it work for me”. I spent about 2 weeks reading through almost all articles and pages trying to make up my mind if I could do my share of the job. As stated many times by Nick, they would do all they could to help their clients achieve their goals but they needed committed people to work with or they would simply waste their time and our money. I finally stopped thinking too much, just went for it and started to train with Nick Daniel..
What do you feel that you have achieved:
Much more than I expected. Not only, I know and I feel that my health has improved a lot which was the most important for me and my family, but I also regained a lot of confidence in myself. After almost 11 weeks of training my weight has dropped down to 82kg and I’m more tone than I have ever been (even though there is still a lot of work to be done). I went from size XL to M and the clothes that I kept in my closet for years thinking that they would fit again one day are too big. And you know what it feels great!
My wife is so happy to see me healthier and also more available when we’re all together. Overall my mood improved as much as my weight situation. She is also getting greedy and is asking for a nice six pack now!!
People around me would see me before among other things as the guy who would always be at the pub and on its way to severe obesity (and probably alcoholism). Now I’m the guy who lost a lot of weight, looks younger and healthier, very nice feeling indeed.
Several of my colleagues have now joined UP, I stopped counting the number of times I have sent the website address to people, not even talking about the number of times I had to explain what it was that I was doing and worked so well. It created at lot of interest and without being pretentious (as I said still a lot to work on) I guess the results speak for themselves.
What have you learned:
I learned first of all that with focus and efforts I could achieve something like that which I honestly thought impossible not so long ago. I have already started to line up a few long overdue goals that I now feel I can achieve. I’m not saying it’ll be easy but I’m confident that it is doable.
I also gained an understanding about how to leave a healthier life for the long term not just for the time I spent at UP. I know there is lot more to learn and understand but I needed to start somewhere.
What’s next for you:
I initially thought I would only do a 12 weeks program, but I have decided to keep on a bit longer and go from losing weight and fat to building a bit of muscle (with a secret hope to try to get a bit of that six pack that I have never seen and that my wife is asking for…). Joke aside; there is still a bit of room to go to be quit lean and I would like to learn some more in order to feel very confident that when I’ll train on my own in the future I’ll do the right things in the right way.
What would you be willing to tell others about your experience with us:
If I could I’ll go back in time and start training a few years back. These guys absolutely know what they are talking about and if you still doubt just go there and see for yourself. My experience with Nick in particular has been great (no wonder I want to continue). He knew when to push me for more and when to give me a bit more rest, instructions on diet and supplements were clear and simple. Results started to show so quickly that I never had a moment of doubt about whether I was doing the right thing or not. In all honesty I have had times at the beginning when I would almost fear going to the training knowing that it was going to be tough but always felt very happy afterwards. Nick was changing the weekly routine every now and then so I would never get bored doing the same things over and over. Everyone training there, is working very hard (trainees and trainers alike) and it really keeps you motivated to push yourself as well.
Last but not least, if you want top trainers like them you’ll need to invest some money on yourself but it’s worth every penny. And if you’re like me having significant weekly pubs and restaurant bills, these can finance a good portion of your training instead (water and diet cokes are much much cheaper than pints, and shots and bottles of wine and all the rest).
