Jamie thought his genes were stopping him from getting the body he wanted.

The 36-year-old chartered surveyor had tried other training plans before, but had never got the results he wanted.

The busy father-of-two believed his genetics simply meant he wasn’t cut out to build the kind of lean and athletic physique that you see on the front of a magazine.

But 24 weeks of working with his online personal trainer at Ultimate Performance and he has proved himself wrong.

Jamie’s hard work and dedication on his online transformation paid off and he achieved results he just didn’t think were possible in a matter of weeks.

Now Jamie is a changed man – he knows exactly how to structure his diet and what to do in the gym to stay in incredible shape – he’s even kept his MyFitnessPal food diary for 180 days now.

“In simple terms, I never thought I could achieve what I have.  I thought it just wasn’t in my genetics and the results have surpassed what I thought was possible for me.

“Looking back at my progress photographs is a bit surreal as I almost don’t recognise myself.

When I first started I thought I was in decent shape but, when compared to now, the results are poles apart.”

Jamie explains how he achieved such impressive results by making minor tweaks to his diet and nutrition with U.P.’s online training programme…

What were your motivations for starting?

I’d been following U.P. fitness for a while through social media having kind of stumbled across it.

I was impressed by the results some of the members had achieved, I’d also heard of the transformation Nick Mitchell did with Joe Warner having read through magazines but hadn’t put the two together before.

The transformations I was seeing were clearly very impressive but were something I’d never been able to attain before.

The upfront information made it very clear that there is no mucking about and to achieve the results it was going to take hard work and commitment so I was expecting a full-on experience.

How were you feeling physically and mentally before starting with U.P.?

I’d completed online training before through other organisations, but never really achieved the results I wanted, perhaps because they weren’t focused and personalised enough.

I’d finished previous plans feeling a bit underwhelmed and disappointed although I knew I had the right attitude and commitment to achieve better results given better guidance.

Before starting with U.P. I thought I had a good level of fitness and had a good few years of regular gym training behind me so was confident in my physical abilities.

What was your diet and lifestyle like before you started with UP?

Before starting with U.P. I had a reasonably balanced diet.  My meals were always freshly prepared and carefully weighed out ingredients but with the inclusion of the odd cheat meal and a few drinks.

Although I had a lot of structure and planning in what I was eating, I didn’t understand macros and was simply following another nutrition plan that didn’t provide information about what my macros needed to be.

In hindsight, I think my nutrition levels were all wrong which was stopping me achieve the results I wanted.

During my time at U.P., I have been keeping a food diary for everything I eat, day in, day out, and I am pleased to say I have recorded about 180 days in a row on the MyFitnessPal app!

What effect did this have on your health, performance, lifestyle and energy levels?

I was following a structured plan but not achieving the results I wanted and overall feeling disenchanted.

I had kind of settled on the idea that I was getting too old or achieving the body I wanted wasn’t in my genetics.

I still enjoyed training and following a plan but with less enthusiasm than I should have had. I just thought my progress was slow.

How did you find the training and did it fit around your busy lifestyle?

The training comprised of a lot of the exercises I had done before but with more focus on tempo, rest periods and form.

I was able to send videos via WhatsApp to my trainer so he could see how I was doing and advise on any adjustments.

A bank of training videos were shared with me at the outset and additional guidance given as required.

My weight and reps were recorded for every session and information passed to my trainer so my progression could be monitored, which is something I have never done before but will continue to do for as long as I train.

The quantity of training was similar to what I had done before with the exception of the encouragement to move more.

Getting 10-12,000 steps per day is difficult to achieve, but I became a bit obsessed with getting as many steps in as possible, which I think has made a huge difference.

Being accountable and reporting to my trainer on a weekly basis is a huge motivator to get in the training and physical activity required.

When my sessions have been taking longer than I was able to allow, these were quickly modified to suit the limited time I have in the gym.

Having a full time demanding job and young family is always going to be a challenge when trying to get in good shape, but it is achievable.

I’m continually making progress, even when I think I must have peaked, adjustments are made to the plan and I take another step up.

The changes to training/nutrition only seem to be quite minor but a few careful tweaks make a huge difference.

I’m looking forward to my future training and the progress I can make.  I think I have been given the skills and knowledge required to make a positive impact on my training and nutrition long term.

What were the most important things you learned during your transformation?

I learnt that nutrition is king and without absolutely nailing that you won’t get the results you want.  Together with this, consistency is key.

Making sure you stick to the plan 100% is really important in terms of the food you eat and keeping up with the training.

Being accountable to yourself and also having a trainer in continual contact really helps to keep you on track and to make continual improvements week on week.

How has the transformation changed you and do you think it will benefit you going forward?

Without a doubt the transformation has changed me.  Both physically and mentally I feel more confident.  I understand what works for me and how I can continue to make improvements and progress.

Would you recommend U.P. and why?

100% yes!  Okay so, UP is more expensive than other online plans out there, but I know from experience that they are not as effective as U.P. Fitness.
The guidance is completely personalised and tailored to the individual.  The results are undeniable.
That is not to say that you don’t need to be 100% committed.
The guidance and support are top class but, at the end of the day, it’s up to the individual to keep focused and stay committed.
Providing you have the right mindset and accompany this with the professional guidance and support that is being given to you by your trainer, the hard work will pay off.
I was so pleased with my results I continued with the monthly rolling plan and carried on making progress.
