That’s the question 44-year-old Nick asked himself every day.
He felt stuck in mid-age and believed he was rapidly running out of time to reach his peak physical condition.
Swamped with Zoom calls and working 8am to 6pm most days, Nick found it difficult to switch off from work. And once the day came to an end, the last thing he wanted to do was go to the gym.
Now, he can’t imagine a life without exercise. He’s become the fittest and strongest version of himself working with his U.P. trainer and reversed countless bad habits that have held him back for years.

What was your motivation to start your own personal training plan with U.P.?
My motivation to join U.P. was after the pandemic when I felt more unfit than ever before.
My health was not great, I was definitely overweight and my nutrition and drinking habits were out of control.
I’d tried a transformation before with other personal trainers, but what I was looking for from this experience was to get into the best shape of my life.
I’ve never felt like I’ve been in my peak physical condition, so I thought it was time to give it a go.
What did your diet and lifestyle look like before you started your program?
Like many people, I had a tough time during the pandemic and picked up some bad habits. Working from home and being on Zoom calls from 8am to 6pm, the last thing I wanted to do was go to the gym afterwards.
During the day, all you’ve got is your desk and your fridge, so it was easy to pick these bad habits up. I was working late and not setting myself boundaries. I couldn’t cut away from work and switch off.
Coming to U.P. has really helped me break that cycle. I’ve committed to my plan and realised that I don’t have to be that overweight, unhealthy and lethargic person anymore.
How were your unhealthy habits and lack of exercise making you feel?
As you can probably imagine before I came to U.P., I was unhappy with myself and felt quite depressed. Being 44, which I guess is mid-age, you start to think “is this it?” And “am I ever going to experience what good health and fitness feel like?”
But my trainer worked closely with me to identify my bad habits and how we could reverse them. She helped me identify what foods were good and what foods were bad, and ensured I was on track with everything I ate.
Were you surprised by how quickly you saw your body change?
As you move through your sessions, you see results very quickly. It really surprised me.
I lost a few kilos in the first week and started to see my plan working, giving me my confidence back.
I’d suffered a bit because my clothes wouldn’t fit me, and I felt down because of how I looked.
So, within a month or so, when my clothes fit me better, I didn’t mind being in photos and started to feel much better about myself.
All the things I used to avoid, like looking in a mirror or going for a walk in my sports gear started to become easier. You mentally become a lot more ready to go out into the world!
What physical changes have you seen, and how happy are you with your achievements?
It’s been life-changing for me.
When you look in the mirror, you can see the obvious physical changes. I now fit into all my clothes which is also a relief, because I can wear so many things which I haven’t worn in quite a while.
I don’t have to wear tracksuit bottoms everywhere now – I can wear jeans which is another huge plus.
And it’s also the energy I have throughout the day. There’s been a massive change in my willingness to go out and exercise.
I look physically great, but I’ve also got a much more positive outlook on life.
Finally, how would you summarise your experience at U.P. and would you recommend it to others?
U.P. has 100% exceeded my expectations.
I was a little bit scared going in because I wasn’t sure if it would be too hardcore.
At the start, it can be difficult because you’re picking up a lot of new habits. But once you commit to your program, you start to see fantastic changes.
The team of trainers are great; there’s so much support if you need to adjust your schedule or training plan.
It feels like a partnership to improve your health.
