All his life he had wanted to build solid abs and a slim physique, but at 46 thought that ship has sailed.

Here, Haydn speaks about how his understanding of weight training was completely transformed in a matter of weeks, and how he now looks forward to stepping foot in the gym.

 

What was your motivation to start working with Ultimate Performance?

When I used to train, I would just have my earphones in and lacked any real focus. At U.P., my trainer would continually push me and my workouts now have a structure.

I used to just put my weights down and look around for a while, with no discipline. I just found I wasn’t getting anywhere.

My body was changing, but it really wasn’t changing anywhere near the amount it is now. In lockdown I was using resistance bands at home, trying to keep fit. After the third lockdown, I decided I wasn’t going to bother anymore. So I decided to start training with U.P.

 

 

How is U.P.’s approach different from other personal trainers you have used?

I would say U.P.’s approach is different in comparison to other gyms, I personally found my trainer much more knowledgeable. The dietary information has been key and the help I received with my technique while lifting was invaluable.

I’ve just learned so much about exercise selection and how it targets each muscle group. Because of that, my body has transformed drastically. Honestly, I can’t put it into words. I now want to get out of bed and come to U.P.

How happy were you with your progress under the guidance of your trainer?

When I look at the U.P. app and review my progress, I just can’t believe that it’s my body. I genuinely didn’t think that I would be able to achieve it at 46.

When you look at pictures in Men’s Health and on TV, it’s always been a goal of mine to try and get abs. I’ve done crunches at home and tried a number of machines, but never really achieved results. What U.P. taught me is that diet is the key and goes hand in hand with good progress.

 

 

What is the most powerful lesson you have learned? 

I think the most powerful lesson I have learned is to simply listen to your trainer. Honestly, I can’t praise him enough for guiding me and helping me through my transformation.

I’ve stuck to everything that he’s told me to do because maybe in the past I haven’t properly followed plans, which has cost me. I would maybe drink protein shakes, but I have never kept it up. With U.P. I did everything to the letter and it has delivered results.
