I can honestly say I’m in the best shape of my life. I’ve hit my milestone 60th birthday looking great. I wholeheartedly recommend U.P. to anyone. Everyone should do it. U.P. should be on the NHS.
Going through menopause, 59-year-old Elisabeth felt like the odds were stacked against her to get in shape.
Fad diet after fad diet failed to help her lose weight. And she hadn’t been near a gym in over 20 years.
On the cusp of turning 60, Elisabeth was finally ready to get serious to transform her health for good.
Now over 23kg down, Elisabeth has learnt lessons for life on health and fitness at U.P. and is empowered in her body to enjoy her 60s feeling great.
Read all about her inspiring transformation here.
What motivated you to start your own transformation with U.P.?
My motivation for undergoing my transformation was fourfold.
Firstly, I’ve got a big birthday coming up in December – I’m 60! I’m still 24 in my head though, and I didn’t want to be an old 60.
Secondly, it was my niece’s wedding last year, which was just before I started working with U.P., which was a low point for me. I felt awful in the dress I was wearing and never wanted to feel like that again.
I also have arthritis in my hip. I had quite a pronounced limp when I first started here, and I didn’t want that to affect other people as I got older.
Finally, as I said, I’m 24 in my head. I never believed that being 60 should limit you from doing anything, so I wanted to prove to myself that I could do anything.
Can you tell us a little bit about the results you’ve achieved?
I have never gone into a personal training program with so little expectation in terms of weight loss mainly due to going through menopause. I just knew I needed help.
But I can honestly say I’m in the best shape of my life and hit my milestone 60th birthday looking great. To do so knowing that I’m fitter, slimmer, and transformed in more ways than just body composition is incredible.
I wholeheartedly recommend U.P. to anyone. U.P. should be on the NHS! Everyone should do it.
How important was your trainer in helping you transform your mindset?
Quite a lot changed when I came to U.P. – first of all, my mindset. When I started, I made the decision that I was going to listen to all the advice – not something that I’m well known for.
I run a business, and I tell people what to do. I don’t usually get told what to do. So, coming here was a bit of a leap of faith.
I listened to everything and told myself I would commit to my plan, and the results speak for themselves.
What did you think about weight training before you partnered with your U.P. trainer?
Before I joined U.P., I’d already done some weight training in commercial gyms. I’m smiling when I say that because when I say “weight training”, I mean lifting a few dumbbells, going on a few machines, no progression, and no changing any of my exercises.
I was just doing the same old, same old, and not getting any results whatsoever.
When I came to U.P., I remember my trainer gave me two 6kg dumbbells and I thought what the hell am I going to do with these? I hadn’t been in a gym for 20 years.
But my trainer had confidence in me, which gave me a lot of confidence, and it’s grown from there really. I now understand how to lift weights and I’ve progressed way more than I ever thought I would.
What are the most powerful lessons you’ve learnt?
Since joining U.P., I’ve learned a lot about nutrition and training. I used to make rubbish food fit my macros and wonder why I wasn’t getting results.
I would never lose any weight, and if I did, I would put it all back on. I was stuck in a cycle.
When one fad diet didn’t work after six weeks, I’d move on to the next. I soon gave up and decided if I was going to do this, I needed to do it properly.
With weight training, I think I already said, to be honest, I wasn’t weight training at all before. Now I can deadlift more than I ever thought I’d be able to.
When we do warm-up sets now, I find it laughable that that was my end weight only a couple of months ago. That progression has been amazing for me, to be honest.
Do you think there’s a magic ingredient to success at U.P.?
I can’t believe how much weight I’ve lost. And the magic ingredient is… I don’t think “magic ingredient” is the word. It’s hard work and being consistent. It’s showing up when you don’t want to.
My trainer is great with me. He knows when I’m not in a great mood, so we just get on with it and train. But at the same time, he knows when I’m feeling invincible and pushes me to do more and more.
That trust you can put in your trainer has been absolutely key.
- We show you the best, we don't show you the worst.
- We show you people who follow the plans, not those who are all talk.
- We show you those who inspire even us with their commitment to their results.
- You cannot get results exactly like these. You are unique and that means you can only get your own best possible results.
- Your results are a function of time spent following the plan; your genetic response to the right exercise and diet program; how hard you train; how consistently you come to the gym; how disciplined you are with your diet; & your starting point.
- Oftentimes the lower your starting point (poor fitness, terrible body composition) the better your results.
- We cannot do the work for you and the results you see here are a testament to the work ethic of our clients.
-
Our reputation is that we are the best trainers in the world for helping you to unlock your potential, & we can lead you to the door, give you the key, even turn the handle and push the door open, but we cannot walk through it for you.
In the end the result is down to you.
