39-year-old Daniel felt at the point of no return with his health.
When a routine blood test showed he was in the pre-diabetic range, he was understandably worried.
For years he had drifted in and out of fitness routines. But now with one eye on the ‘second stage’ of his life, he was more motivated than ever to make real lifestyle changes.
In less than three months working with Ultimate Performance, he’s put his diabetes scare firmly behind him and built a body he’s always dreamed of in the process.

What motivated you to partner with U.P. and start your own personal training program?
I came to U.P. because I thought I was out of shape. I’d always yo-yoed throughout my life between being fit and then falling out of any routine.
I think I’d reached that age where I was almost at a point of no return. I really needed to get fit for good and build healthy habits, so I could gracefully enter the second stage of my life.
I was looking for a program that would help me get proper results and teach me habits that I could stick to.
That was the reason I chose U.P.
Had you ever worked with personal trainers in the past?
I’d worked with some personal trainers in the past, but it was never as focused as what I got here at Ultimate Performance. It was okay, but it just wasn’t intense or focused enough. The methodologies just did not compare to what I’ve experienced here.
It’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen in the personal training industry before.
Why did your U.P. trainer stand out from trainers you’d worked with before?
My trainer always looked at my form and the way I was doing exercises. It was never just about doing the reps, it was about getting my technique right, really maximising the effort I was putting in and identifying the right muscle groups when I was training.
You always feel comforted by the fact that your trainer really knows what he is doing and you’re getting the best value for the effort that you’re putting in.
I was also mightily impressed with the way I progressed. Within my three-month transformation, I never got to a point where I was stagnant. I was always lifting heavier and getting stronger.
What results have you seen during your transformation?
I started my training plan at around 83kg, which was probably the heaviest I’ve ever been, actually. And about three months later, I came down to 68kg – so that’s almost 15kg gone which is incredible.
It really shows in the way I look as well, which was one of my main goals coming to U.P. I was expecting to lose weight and put on a bit of muscle, but the results have been amazing.
It’s the first time in my life that I’ve had to look in the mirror and double-take, because I had good pectoral muscles, my shoulders looked defined and my abs were popping out. I’d never seen anything like that ever before. Even when I was at my fittest as a teenager, I was lean, but I’ve never been as defined as I am now.
It’s been great to see that progress and attain a physique that I’ve always dreamed of.
You’ve also made some important improvement to your health, haven’t you?
I have! I did some blood tests last year before starting my U.P. program and there was a little bit of a concern with me starting to enter the pre-diabetic range.
I recently did some blood tests after my three-month transformation, and I’m very happy to report I’m now below the range of being pre-diabetic.
So, that’s extremely good news from a health point of view.
Now that you’ve transformed your health and fitness, is that carrying over into your everyday life?
I’ve gained so much confidence and feel better in my body. I also feel I have a higher level of focus and endurance – not just physical endurance, but also psychological endurance.
I think there’s something very powerful about putting yourself through a gruelling hour of training and pushing yourself to failure. That’s something that I’ve definitely taken into my work life as well and my personal life.
If you push through and put in the effort, you’ll come out the other side. I’d also say I’ve come away with a sense of pride for going through this and achieving my goals.
Finally, would you recommend U.P. to those who want to make radical changes to their health?
Definitely. It’s one of the best things that you can do for yourself. It’s an investment in yourself.
It’s an investment in your health. Your mental health will improve, your confidence will improve your aesthetics, if you’re concerned about that, will improve too.
