42-year-old Joseph felt unhappy and lost after he came out of a divorce.

Here, Joseph speaks about how U.P. devised a road map to guide him to a healthier routine, and why his training program was the best thing he has done in rediscovering his happiness.
What was your motivation to join U.P?
My motivation to undergo my transformation was that I’d just come out of a divorce. I was quite unhappy, overweight, and really felt quite lost in a way.
All the things that I’d got used to, being a husband, being a father, all those things had suddenly changed and I felt very uncertain about the future.
I was just looking for something positive to do for myself, just to rediscover who I was. I just felt like this was the right thing to do.
How did being overweight affect your life, your confidence and your personality?
Being overweight affected my life in very negative ways. I didn’t feel comfortable in my own skin and I couldn’t wear the clothes that I wanted to wear.
I didn’t feel confident in social situations, I felt tired and lethargic and just didn’t feel like myself. Physically, I felt drained every day.
What training have you done in the past and how does it compare to U.P.?
The training that I’ve done in the past has been a bit hit and miss really. I’ve trained in other gyms and had some support from other personal trainers, but they don’t really offer that same level of support that you get at U.P.
They don’t offer any real support with diet and what you should and shouldn’t be eating, which is quite a strong focus at U.P.
U.P. offer that accountability and attention to detail which means every day your calorie intake, steps, water intake and all these aspects are tracked.
How do you feel physically and mentally now compared to when you started with U.P.?
Physically and mentally, I feel 100 times better. I feel like I’ve got so much more energy and more time to spend with my children.
The things I enjoy doing like running, I can run a lot faster, run a lot further than I’ve ever done before.
Mentally, I feel so much more confident and so much happier and just I’ve got that confidence back now to go on and move on after my experience at U.P., and just achieve whatever I want to do next.
What do you think the magic ingredient to success is at U.P?
I think the magic ingredient for success at U.P. is just that level of support that you get.
The gym itself is friendly and inviting and the trainers are great. Everybody’s cheering everybody else on, so coming to training is a joy.
Having that strong focus on your diet and output outside of the gym is brilliant as well. You just don’t get that of support at other gyms, it’s only really U.P. that does that for you.
In a nutshell, what does U.P represent to you?
In a nutshell, U.P. represents just the best opportunity that I’ve had to turn things around.
For myself personally, just being able to get to the physical and mental state that I’m in now, I just wouldn’t have thought possible six or 12 months ago.
So it’s just been a fantastic experience and one I’d recommend to anybody.
