When Shilpa had a baby two years ago, she was ready for the challenges of motherhood.
But giving every ounce of her time, attention and love to her son, left little time to care for herself.
Her health and well-being often took a back seat and the struggle to lose weight left her feeling helpless, depressed and like she would never rediscover her ‘old’ self.
After trying unsuccessfully to lose weight for more than a year, she was ready to give up when a chance conversation with her friend put Ultimate Performance Kensington on her radar and she started her own transformation journey.
Now in what feels like a heartbeat, Shilpa says her life has been refreshed – she has lost the weight and feels great again.
“Having a baby and getting as big as I was makes you think that you will never go back to being the person you were again and this just goes to show that that’s just not true – sure your body is different, but nothing can stop you from looking as great as before.
“You walk into a shop, pick a pair of jeans, and they fit. There is nothing more pleasing than that!
“I am 24 weeks in, and I have lost 20kg and 20% body fat.
“I am actually wearing a dress that I wore when I was 22! To be able to do that is great.”

Her fitness problems started after her son was born; as she concentrated on taking care of the baby, her fitness and diet took a backseat.
Months turned into years, and the pregnancy weight just stayed on.
“To be honest, I was looking after my baby, and he was my primary concern; I was kind of an afterthought.
“I didn’t think about what I was eating at all, I didn’t worry about what I was doing too much about myself.
“So diet was ‘you name it, I ate it’.”
Shilpa’s whole lifestyle revolved around looking after her little one. Her own health and well-being was the last thing on her mind.
“I definitely didn’t have any sort of an active lifestyle.
“I joined a gym but never really went to it. So, basically, I made all the mistakes that people with good intentions make.”
It wasn’t until it started really impacting the way she felt about herself that Shilpa really took notice.
“I had this overwhelming sense of feeling very miserable and desperate.
“I was at a point where I didn’t know what else to do.
“Everything that I was doing was not working and everything I was trying to do, I was giving up on very easily.
“So, I was actually very miserable towards other people as well. I don’t think I was a very nice person.”

“I never ever thought that I would eat the way that I do now. It’s completely different.
“I mean, a lot of it has to do with willpower, but a lot of it is also about just being aware. Just looking at things and thinking – is that actually worth it?”
