Client of the Month: Ross

Ross had almost hit 220 lbs when he decided enough was enough.

As he focused more on his career and started putting in long hours at his office, exercise and nutrition were put on a back burner.

For someone who had always kept fit and was proud of his athletic frame – the reality of his weight gain was hard to ignore for 31-year-old Ross.

He had been thinking of changing his lifestyle for a while, but finally confronted the problem when he had some time to catch his breath during a vacation.

He thought through the changes he wanted to make in his life and signed up for a consultation at Ultimate Performance Los Angeles.



All he needed to do was get the ball rolling, and after that, the U.P. program took over.

“In my first week, I remember looking at the volume of ‘before and after’ photos on the walls at the gym, and the obvious success stories of so many people almost did not seem real or attainable in such short time frames.

“I never imagined I would close out this decade with less than 9% body fat and in the best shape of my life!”

Ross entered U.P. weighing 217.8 lbs and carrying 22% body fat – but in just 20 weeks he lost 42 lbs, 12% body fat and 6 inches off his waist.

By any standard, that is a transformation worthy of a spot on U.P.’s famous results wall.

When Ross started gaining weight, he didn’t immediately notice it, but he certainly felt it and knew that the pounds were stacking up.

Still, it took a while for him actually to confront the problem head-on.

He joined U.P. because he needed a program that fit his busy lifestyle but would still be intensive enough to counter the effects of his sedentary and oftentimes stressful work life.

“Work definitely has a huge impact on my life. It takes up a lot of time and mental effort. I often work close to 80 hours a week.

“Being out of shape definitely did affect my confidence, whether I like to admit that or not.

“Just seeing myself kind of change over time and not feeling like I had the time or the capacity to try to overcome that was a big deal. So I really did need to make some significant changes, and I did so these past 20 weeks.”

“From a diet perspective, it’s a lot easier to be making poor choices when different meals are being brought in for you – pizza and pasta and things that probably aren’t necessarily the smartest choices are readily available.

“When you’re eating things that are not great, then from a physical standpoint, not only does change your body composition, but it also changes the way that you feel internally.”

Ross had worked with several personal trainers in the past, but U.P.’s structure around technique and safety ensured that he could go through the full transformation process without a single injury. Consistent training and his body-targeted nutrition plan soon had him back feeling his fittest self.

“I saw results pretty much immediately within the first two weeks, most notably off my face. Then everything else kind of followed suit, so right away people were noticing changes in me – changes in mood and everything just drastically changed for the better.

“Physically, I feel way stronger. I think when I got here, I was definitely out of the game in terms of actual lifting and strength. I’ve been able to get back to my old self these past 20 weeks, and that has been great.

“It’s also had a huge impact on my mental standpoint – just really being able to focus towards goals and just the reactions that I’ve seen from other people and how I feel about myself internally has really changed me for the better.”
