Louise was feeling wrung out, tired and lost as she turned 40, but U.P. put the smile back on her face.

A chronic illness combined with caring for two young children and balancing a hectic work-life left Louise no time or energy to spare for herself.

When her milestone 40th birthday came and went, she felt deeply that it was time to change and start prioritising herself and her health.

When she heard about a friend’s experience at Ultimate Performance Cheshire, it lit a spark in her – she decided to invest in herself and started her own 13-week transformation at U.P.

Now she is 18kg lighter, 16cm thinner on her waist and feeling happier, healthier and more confident than ever.

“I never thought I would be lifting weights, but within 2-3 weeks of doing it, I felt stronger physically and mentally as well.

The last decade had been a stressful one for Louise. She had gone through two pregnancies and raised her children while dealing with physically debilitating diseases.

She felt U.P. was her last chance to reclaim her health and happiness.

“I was diagnosed in 2012 with ankylosing spondylitis, which is like arthritis of the spine, and over the course of the last 10-12 years, I have had days where I couldn’t get out of bed because of stiffness and pain.

“My mobility was affected severely. I was off medication when I had my children, and I couldn’t carry them or put them to bed; I couldn’t hold them in that way.

“For the last 10 years, I have been trying to get the medication right, having children, and working, and I just started to feel like I don’t want to look back and regret and that I didn’t look after myself and therefore couldn’t look after my children.

“My kids are 4 and 6 now, and I felt I could start giving myself some time. I didn’t want to look back at my photos and be unhappy with what I saw.”

Louise felt she didn’t have the time or the energy to take time out for herself, but committing to the U.P. programme helped her carve out a couple of hours in her week to dedicate to getting healthier.

It worked wonders. She especially loved the diet that took the guesswork out of what she should be eating and helped her focus on meal prep.

“Before U.P., I lived off pasta and cheese – basically anything that was easy. I spent my whole day cooking for the kids and clearing up after them so I would eat leftovers or cook something quick and easy for myself.

“Since U.P., I have been on a low-carb, high-protein diet, and I haven’t felt sluggish at all. The strict diet plan is actually quite liberating because I haven’t had to think about what I am cooking all the time.”

The simple but powerful dietary changes and the focus on effective training were truly transformative for Louise and she felt the impact almost immediately.

“My medication controls the effects of my disease, and while I live a pain-free life, I still struggled with fatigue. My doctor said that it was because of an underlying level of inflammation, but since I have been at U.P. that has gone! I have got so much energy now.

“I think a combination of my diet and the lifestyle that I am now leading has given me more energy. I noticed this within 2 weeks of starting at U.P.”

With a dedicated trainer by her side employing U.P.’s scientific approach, what Louise had originally thought impossible quickly felt well within reach.

The results she saw every week gave her the confidence and motivation to see it through.

“When I first started, I saw the results on the wall, and I was like ‘Oh my god. I could never do that!’

“After about two weeks, I realised maybe it was possible because I started losing weight, but I also realised that my focus had shifted from losing weight to how I fitted into my clothes and how I felt.

“My mindset changed about what I wanted. I also feel that the positive vibes and accountability at the gym, and especially with my trainer, kept me going.”
