When 33-year-old consultant Justin got back from an indulgent trip to the Middle East, he just knew that his half-baked efforts at fitness would not loosen his belt.

Mountains of greasy food and holiday indulgences had left him at the heaviest and unhealthiest point of his life.

“Sometimes I wake up, and I don’t remember that I have been doing this and I look in the mirror, and I am like holy s**t! I feel like buying a spandex suit!”

While his trip away served as the tipping point, Justin was already in the overweight category before his vacation.

But as the weight slowly stacked up, his inactive lifestyle made it hard for him to lose weight on his own.

“My initial motivation was just to lose all that fat. I wanted to see what was possible.

“I stopped believing that I could carve an hour or so for myself. I was stuck in the office sitting all day.

“As things got busier, I spent less and less time on myself or my health, and I wanted to see if I could shift the balance back.”

Justin’s starting point was like so many new U.P. clients – he was a relatively beginner with little experience of training. He had dipped his toe in the pool with other personal trainers, but never really achieved anything.
