As the marketing director at Microsoft and mum to two lovely girls, Yvie had it all – she managed to juggle work, family and social commitments, but what fell through was her fitness and health.
With her 40th birthday approaching, she was ready for a big change.
Coincidentally around the same time, she saw the transformation of one of her colleagues first hand and impressed with the results decided to sign up for her own transformation programme at Ultimate Performance Singapore.
It took Yvie 20 weeks and just 42 gym sessions to get the body and the strength she always wanted – while losing 10kg in weight and 14.5cm on the waist.
“Physically, I am the leanest and strongest I have ever been, starting off my 40s better than I ever was in my 20s. I have the energy to last through long days at work and into the evenings and weekends to share with my little girls, husband, and friends.
“Mentally and emotionally, I feel empowered and equipped with the tools and knowledge to sustain this long term – from managing food intake, calories, and macros, to what exercises it takes to get my body stronger.
“I am happier, more confident, and definitely more motivated. I truly feel like a better mother, wife, friend, and colleague.”
It is incredible to see how far Yvie has come in 20 short weeks.
Starting out, it felt like getting in the best shape of her life was going to be a mountain to climb, given her hectic lifestyle.
But what she found was just how manageable it was with the team at U.P. Singapore behind her every step of the way.
“I am a full-time working mum who struggles to balance family and work – I work long hours, travel up to 1-2 weeks a month, and usually get less than 6 hours sleep a night.”
“I was turning 40, and that milestone made me really want to make a change for the long term – I wanted to be the healthiest, strongest, and the best person I could be, not only for myself but for my 3- and 5-year-old little girls.”
Yvie never had a problem with exercise, but it was often nutrition and her relationship with food which held her back from achieving what she wanted.
“I worked out a lot and tried various fitness programmes, but I never achieved the physique I wanted.
“I had a bad relationship with food, which I know prevented me from achieving those goals.
“So I tried several nutrition challenges and diets but bounced right back to where I started after completing those programmes – making me feel guilty and down on myself. It was a vicious cycle.”
Yvie started by making her goals public – she figured the added pressure of public failure would keep her committed.
But what she found was the U.P. transformation programme gave her all the accountability she needed to stay consistent and reach her goal.
While there were challenges along the way, but Yvie developed the tools to be able to handle them with ease and stay on track.
“Weekends are challenging – it’s family time, you are surrounded by food and people who are pressuring you to do stuff. It’s amazing how you can actually overcome those things when you are committed to a programme.
“The second challenge is when I am traveling for work – that throws up my whole routine, and so again, the focus you need there is even more. Halfway through the programme, I became an expert at scoping out hotel gyms, restaurants, and planning food and meals – it became almost second nature!”
What she found was that she didn’t have to dedicate hours and hours every day to her fitness to get the results she wanted.
“U.P. has a programme designed to give you maximum results in minimum time – just 3 times a week in the gym was all I needed between work, meetings, kids and family activities, and overall life commitments.
“At U.P., I learned that no matter where you are or how busy you are, you can make it work.
“I was able to achieve all three of my 2019 fitness goals during the U.P. transformation period – doing strict pull-ups, climbing a rope, and a 90kg deadlift after two kids.”
Reflecting on her time at U.P., Yvie is still amazed at how quick her transformation happened.
Five months ago, she walked into U.P. wondering how she was going to find the time to fit in a training schedule and now on the other side of the programme she is still astonished at how achievable the whole transformation turned out to be.
“U.P. is a holistic programme that goes beyond exercise to help you reach maximum results in minimal time.
“It has shown me that with the right focus, discipline, programme, and coaching, you can really achieve your goals.”
What really stood out for Yvie was the standard of personal training at Ultimate Performance.
“Their trainers walk the talk, have deep knowledge and experience, and hold you accountable inside and outside the gym. The workouts are effective, push you to your limits, but are always safe.
“The nutrition coaching is personalised for your specific lifestyle. And to top it off, the gym environment is fantastic with great energy.
“I would sum up my journey with the quote ‘it always seems impossible until it’s done.’
“I never thought I could achieve my goals, and with U.P., I did it in such a short time. It really proves that you can do whatever you put your mind to, and that has changed my outlook on so many other aspects in my life – that was an amazing and unexpected benefit.”
