Ever feel like it’s now or never to get in shape?

This is how 55-year-old Pat felt before he started his transformation with Ultimate Performance.

London business owner Pat had trained weights for years, but never got the body he truly wanted.

At 55, he was carrying more fat than he wanted and made the decision that ‘now’ was the time to get in shape after seeing what Men’s Fitness editor Joe Warner had achieved at U.P.

Now, after 12 weeks, he has lost 8kg and a quarter of his body fat working with his U.P. personal trainer.


Pat says his transformation has not only given him confidence but shown him what he is really capable of.

“It’s made me feel better about myself. I’m more confident.

“You know and you see that you’ve got the possibility to make improvements in yourself.

“It’s given me a lot more possibility, if anything.”

Pat talks about what motivated him to start his transformation at the age of 55 and how his training and diet was taken to the next level working with U.P.

How did you first hear about U.P.?

I read the book. One of the first books that Nick Mitchell wrote. I looked in Men’s Fitness magazine at a 12 Week transformation with Joe Warner. That’s how I first heard about U.P.

What was your motivation to start your transformation?

I had been training for many years – weight training and other sorts of training and I’ve never really felt I made true progress. I’ve made progress but never really defining progress that I could feel was worthwhile. So I felt it was a real opportunity to do something different and give it my full commitment.

What was your diet and lifestyle like before Ultimate Performance?

I would like to think it was fairly healthy. I ate what I thought were the right foods.
Since I’ve done this course and trained with my trainer, what I felt were the correct things to do really weren’t.
I was missing out on a lot of nutritional factors that make such a difference.


How did your fitness and the shape you were in affect your life?

I felt that I was getting older, I was carrying more body fat than I wanted and I felt that if I continued down that line it wasn’t going to help me as I got older. I didn’t think I was particularly out of shape for a man of my age, compared to some, but I felt I could have a better standard and definitely try and make a big improvement now while you’ve got that chance?

How quickly did you start noticing results?

After about three weeks, I had a considerable weight drop and I could see the changes coming, even though they were not big factors – I could still see a difference.

It made me feel a lot better. Your self-esteem goes up, you know that the possibility goes up because you know you’ve got the chance to do something worthwhile.

What do you feel has been the biggest thing you’ve learned?

What I have learned mainly is a lot of education on diet, but also mental limits in the training as well. Where I would feel I’d done enough before, I realised that I’d nowhere near done enough.

I knew that where I was stopping, I wasn’t going to make any progress. So it was a combination of mental improvements – I can now see a great deal more possibilities.


What overall physical results have you achieved?

I’ve lost about 8kg and 6% body fat in a 12-week period. From my starting point, the goals that were set made me realise what I was capable of.

I didn’t really think that was possible, so already I’ve gone far past what I thought.

What did you think when you saw the results on the wall? Did you think it was possible?

I had a degree of ‘do these things really happen? Do they really help people change this much in that short period of time?’ So there was that element of doubt there because you listen to other people.

But I believe it now because I see it in people training here at the gym and the commitment they trainers have to people and the results they get. It is possible, but it’s up to yourself.

What would you say to people who are thinking about doing a transformation at U.P.?

I would say ‘make the commitment.’ You’re not going to regret it. If you really want to make the change and you don’t want to waste time, then make the commitment and you will be able to do it if you put 100%.

What does it feel like being stronger, fitter and leaner than before?

I think it’s an internal thing. You feel better about yourself. You feel more confident in yourself and from doing this course, your self-discipline goes up.

Whereby before you would eat certain foods, you just pick up different patterns of behaviour. You don’t eat certain foods that you would have done and you feel quite happy about it. It’s an internal feeling of confidence.

Has it been life-changing for you?

Without a doubt. If I hadn’t done this course I’d have still been going along on my own little avenue of where I was. Since doing this, it’s the possibility of change and I’d like to continue with U.P. It’s made a big difference. The training has been hard and at times you feel like you don’t want to continue, but it’s all worth it.
