He had been overweight his entire adult life, and at 40, he felt it was now or never to get in shape.
He was determined to change and started dipping his toe into the world of fitness right after his birthday.

Dan started U.P. weighing 116kg and managed to lose 38kg in just 22 weeks.
His body fat, which was at an unhealthy high of 32%, also came down to 15%.

“Part of the problem was that I didn’t realise how bad a state my body was in.

“Food-wise, for breakfast and lunch during the week, I would eat whatever I could find conveniently in the shopping mall by the office.
“At the weekend, I ate out a lot (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) and didn’t really limit myself.”
The shift was dramatic – but it was exactly what he needed to lose the weight and get healthy again.
Building the healthy habits into his lifestyle soon felt like second nature.
“At first, the change is tough. It was difficult to maintain my social life because you place a lot of restrictions on yourself. However, over time, I found a way to manage this and strike a good balance in my lifestyle.
“I now know that I can have a complete lifestyle change and be comfortable with it. U.P. brings me structure; it brings me a plan and rules to follow. It’s a very simple approach, at the same time it’s tough, and you have to be self-motivated.

“Structuring my lifestyle was the most important thing. Thinking about what I eat and not overconsuming has been crucial. Getting set targets and having a regular routine of gym sessions are fundamental too.”
Seeing and feeling the fruits of his labour in the gym are what kept him motivated along the journey and helped him lose the weight.
“For me, the mental benefits started a lot earlier than the physical changes – cutting out alcohol, being able to sleep better, and being more alert at work has been great!
“In the gym, I can see a drastic improvement in my fitness.
“Living in Hong Kong, where it is warm most of the year, is a struggle when you are overweight. I have started seeing a big difference in how I cope with the heat. Also being able to shop properly for clothes and feeling good in what I wear is great. And my wife is very happy that I finally stopped snoring!”
Dan feels like a new man in every sense of the word from the one who turned 40 feeling tired and out of shape.
He truly feels there is no going back to his bad old ways now with the tools and knowledge to move forward.
“I’ve had a complete mindset change on eating and exercise. I now know what works for me in terms of losing and maintaining weight, and I feel I can completely embed this in my lifestyle going forward.”
