Corey was proud of being naturally thin and believed she could eat anything she wanted without putting on too much weight.
But all that changed in her 40s.
Suddenly she woke up to the fact that her metabolism wasn’t as fast as in her younger days and eating unhealthy food and drinking sugary drinks was making her weight creep up little by little.
The tipping point came when she realised she was heavier than she was when she was pregnant. Couple that with her chronic back pain which was worsening by the day and Corey knew she needed to take radical action.
Seven short weeks training at Ultimate Performance Singapore was all it took to make an impressive transformation and some huge and lasting changes to her lifestyle.
Now she is around 6kg lighter with a slimmer waist and finally rid of a ‘mum tum’ that she had been stuck with for more than 20 years.
“Everyone who’s seen my before and after photos are blown away. Aside from losing the flab, I’ve achieved amazing results on the rest of my body — muscles now bulge when I flex!

Life before U.P. was very different.
As the creative director of an advertising firm, Corey led a super sedentary life – her job required her to sit behind her desk writing pretty much the whole day.
She also had chronic back problems which had become worse after an office accident a year ago.
“I knew I had to do something when it was pointed out to me that I was heavier than when I was pregnant.
“Physically and mentally, I was perhaps at the lowest point. I had very little energy. I couldn’t climb up a hillock without getting winded.
“On top of that, my back had been injured from a fall off a broken office chair, and for an entire year I had been in and out of doctors’ and physiotherapists’ offices for pain management.
“My work is highly stressful; I put in long hours and ate unhealthy food. I used to scoff at people who ate salads! I drank a lot of soda and sugary drinks. I had the false sense of invincibility that I still had the metabolism of my 20s.”
Corey had tried DIY fitness routines for a while, but had seen no results. When she saw an advert for U.P., she knew that going the ‘personal trainer route’ would be the right choice for her.
And sure enough, just a few weeks into the U.P. programme, she started seeing unbelievable results. Corey was not only getting stronger but she was getting smaller and slimmer.
But it was perhaps the impact on her bad back that she noticed more than anything.
“What was most surprising was that my back was feeling stronger and my posture had improved.
“I have had scoliosis all my life. I have also had kyphosis, so it was really wrong in all sorts of places in my back. But I feel now that my back has improved. I can lift things better now.
“Even just the way I have learned to stand up straight has greatly improved my outlook, and I feel like a much more confident person. At my performance review, my boss said that I now walk into a room like I own it.”
This new-found health and vitality has carried over into every area of her life.
Being active is now an integral part of her day.
“I would say it has become a lot more automatic to start working out or even just to take the longer route while walking just because I find it more enjoyable now. It’s become a lifestyle change.
“Just starting to walk more; be more active; climb that next hill; run to that next post, and it’s made me feel that I can do more and more things.
“I have a much better relationship with food now that I have learned exactly how much I should be eating. I have a better gauge of which sorts of food I should be eating.”
Corey had never entered a gym before joining U.P.; now her dramatic transformation is making people flock to her for fitness advice.
She credits her trainers for her massive transformation – they kept her focused on her training and supported her every step of the way.
“On the very first day when my trainer measured me and took my photos, she said something that really stuck with me – she told me ‘you will never see yourself the same way ever again,’ and that really struck a chord with me.
“I frankly don’t see myself as the same person anymore, and I give credit to my U.P. trainer, Caroline, for guiding me about technique and regimes, even for non-training days. She drove me to achieve more than I thought I could.
“If you had told me a year ago that I’d be doing twice my weight in leg presses, I would have never believed it.
