Aasif’s transformation has been so dramatic that he still doesn’t recognise the slim, muscular and athletic man staring back at him in the mirror.
It has been a remarkable change in a short space of time for the 37-year-old management consultant.
His ideal body felt a million miles away before coming to Ultimate Performance Dubai, especially with his work, travel and family commitments – he just didn’t feel he had the energy to even start a new regime.
But after losing 13kg in 16 weeks he knows that anything is now possible.
“I don’t recognise the person I was a few months ago. And it’s not just me; many people who know me are shocked to see what I am today compared to what I was before. It’s a gift!
“Yes, it makes you feel fresh, it makes you feel stronger, but mentally, it makes a lot of difference too, especially in a way you look at things – it gives you a positive mindset.”
What sparked his motivation to start a body transformation journey was seeing one of his workmates’ results at U.P. Dubai in a matter of months.
He was blown away by what he saw and felt ‘why not me?’
“One of my colleagues has his picture up on the wall. So, when I saw it, I thought if he did this in a few weeks then if I give it the same kind of dedication and train as hard as him then I can be like that too.”
But Aasif feared it might be a long and hard road to achieve what his friend had.
“My diet and training before U.P. were decided on the spur of the moment. I ate what I felt like; I trained when I felt like it – there wasn’t a proper goal or any proper nutrition plan that I adhered to.”
The results kicked in soon enough. Two weeks into the training, Aasif saw a significant weight drop and tackled the training with renewed enthusiasm.
“We took the first (progress) pictures after a fortnight, and that’s when I could see the changes.
“I could also see that the weight just kept dropping week after week, so that showed consistency and that in turn, motivated me to keep pushing myself.”
The biggest difference that brought fast and formidable results for Aasif was the quality of the training.
Every movement was perfected and every rep optimised for the absolute maximum benefit.
“Personal training wasn’t new to me. I have been through personal training several times before, but the major difference that I saw at U.P. was that they focus mainly on your technique, so the same workout which I did for years has had more effect. I now know that this is how these exercises were supposed to be done.”
It wasn’t just the training that was perfected. Aasif was encouraged to really scrutinise his diet.
“With nutrition knowledge, you start analyzing each meal.
“Before U.P., I just looked at the calories or how delicious it is.
“Now I keep looking at the protein content, and what have they added, so you look at little details in your meals that may have a positive or a negative impact on your body.”
“Our body is not just made of what you lift, and what you do at work, it is also about what you eat, what you put inside it. It’s like they say – ‘garbage in, garbage out’.”
Aasif took U.P’s three-pronged approach – nutrition, rest, and training – very seriously. Right off the bat, he realised that all three were equally important; he listened to his trainer closely and added his own brand of perseverance.
“Adhering to the meal plan, getting plenty of rest and then doing your workouts with proper technique – if you can get these three things done then, with time, you will get the results you want.”
“Perseverance and mental toughness are very important – whether it takes 24 weeks or 12 weeks or 8 weeks, you need to stick to your goals for those weeks. You need to have real mental toughness so that you don’t lose focus.
“Just looking at my before and after pictures, I would say that these are two different individuals. I can’t see any similarities other than the bone structure; definitely, I have changed completely in the last eight weeks of training here.
“I think it gives you confidence because you made it; it basically tells you that you can achieve something you hadn’t managed for a long time.”
