There’s no absolute imperative to minimize carbs on a fat loss diet.

However, dropping carbs works for many

  1. Early in a diet when they need to break bad habits.
  2. Early in a diet because the fatter, more sedentary, less muscle someone has the more likely they will get fat from carbs versus someone who is leaner.
  3. It’s a simple thing to cut out and often makes a diet easier to follow, which is the key. That means cutting sugar and starch, not cruciferous/green vegetables.
