When Geetanjali thought about weight training, she pictured big, bulky men.

But what she didn’t realise was how it could help women shape lean, toned and healthy physiques.

For years, 42-year-old lecturer Geetanjali had slogged it out in cardio classes up to five times a week. She felt fit, but her body never changed no matter how hard she worked.

Coming to Ultimate Performance proved to be the gear change she needed. After group training for a while, she signed up for one-to-one personal training to bring her diet, lifestyle and strength training together to get the best results possible.

Within a matter of weeks of precision weight training and nutrition, her body began changing. After 14 weeks, she had lost 7kg and gained much more in strength and fitness.

  Ultimate Performance

“It’s been three months since I signed up for personal training with U.P., and it’s been totally life-changing! I’ve never looked fitter or stronger.

“It takes a lot of self-control and discipline to stick to a strict nutrition plan, but the level of commitment that the trainers at U.P. have towards their clients really works well in terms of keeping their clients accountable and motivated.

“I would highly recommend U.P. to anyone who is looking to take their fitness to the next level!”

Here Geetanjali talks about how changing her training helped change her body and get the results she had always wanted.

What were you doing with your fitness regime before your started one-to-one personal training at Ultimate Performance?

I’ve been coming to U.P. for a while. I’ve been doing group training for almost two years. That’s what I was doing before starting the personal training sessions at U.P.

I have been working out for a while. I was doing a lot of cardio and Les Mills workouts, but I had never done personal training until I came here.

What motivated you to switch from group training to one-to-one personal training?

As I mentioned, I’ve been working out for a long time, I feel physically fit and energetic. My main motivation was to look fitter and leaner. Even though I was putting in a lot of effort into the workouts, I wasn’t seeing the results physically. So that was my main motivation.

What was your diet and lifestyle like before you started your transformation?

I wouldn’t say my diet wasn’t completely unhealthy. I was just mostly unaware of calories and not tracking them as strictly. My lifestyle is not bad; I don’t smoke, I was drinking a bit more – but that was only in the last year because of COVID.

Otherwise, I would drink on the weekend with friends mostly, so not that much. But over the last year, it had increased quite a bit.

I was consuming alcohol almost every day – a glass or a glass and a half of red wine. On the weekend, it was probably higher; two or three glasses. So, not great.

How did your previous diet and lifestyle make you feel?

My previous diet and lifestyle didn’t make me feel great. I used to wake up feeling tired and low on energy. I’ve never been a morning person anyway, so I thought it was that.

Having now done what I’m doing at U.P., I feel like it’s easier to wake up in the morning, and I’m sleeping a lot better. I wasn’t really sleeping much, which made me feel tired in the mornings generally.

How quickly did you start noticing results after you started?

I would say I started feeling really good 3-4 weeks after starting the program. I think because of the initial reduction in calories, I was feeling tired. I think that last about a week to 10 days.

I think it took 3-4 weeks for me to feel different in terms of how I was sleeping, the energy, the tiredness, or the lack of it, when I’m waking up in the morning.

What was your impression of weight training before you came to Ultimate Performance?

Before my P.T. sessions here, my impression of weight training was it bulks people up and makes them look a bit stocky and big.

Obviously, that impression has now changed. I can see I’m doing a lot of heavy weights but not bulking up, and I’m still looking lean.

Do you now feel like you know how to achieve results?

I’ve realised now I’m not working out as much. I’m doing three or four sessions. I am doing two here at U.P. and one or two on my own, and just trying to get more steps in. I’m actually not working out as much.

Before, I was working out five to six days a week and not seeing any results. This [U.P. personal training] has been a lot more focused.

What’s the most powerful lesson you have learned on this transformation journey?

The most powerful lesson I’ve learnt is that I can be very disciplined when I want to be. Whilst it’s hard to try and put yourself on a routine like this, it can be done, and it’s not impossible.

What have you learned about nutrition from working with Ultimate Performance?

I feel better educated. That has been one of the biggest lessons, that I’ve become mindful about what’s in the food that I’m eating. It’s been a huge advantage.

How do you prepare yourself from day one to now, in terms of fitness, mindset, strength or physique?

I feel more confident; I feel like I have more energy, and I feel less tired. I’m waking up in the mornings without my alarm, which is great. I’m feeling lighter and better.

What is the magic ingredient at Ultimate Performance?

The magic ingredient for success is discipline and hard work.
