What were your expectations going into the program and what were your motivations

 

I expected to have the guidance to work out consistently and eat a clean muscle building diet. My motivation was the fact that getting in the best shape of my life has been on my goal list for a decade. I am also a new dad so, I wanted to be healthy and in shape for as long as I can to play with and provide for my daughter. I wanted to feel better physically, mentally and be more productive. I have a wedding in Mexico to attend so I wanted to look great by then.

 

Can you tell me how you were feeling both physically and mentally before starting with U.P.?

 

Before UP I was feeling tired and lazy, easily defeated mentally and sluggish. I was feeling stuck and overwhelmed when thinking of the prospect of getting in shape.

 

What was your diet and lifestyle like before you started your transformation with U.P.?

 

My diet was decent before starting with U.P I would have a lot of chicken, quinoa, oatmeal, veg, and fruit. The problem was I would also have a few craft beers a week, and I would eat out and have burgers and fries.
My lifestyle was pretty sedentary. I work from behind a computer at home, sometimes I would play soccer once a week, and I would try and hit my 10,000 steps a day, but it was hit or miss if I accomplished that daily.

 

How did your diet and lifestyle change when you started your transformation with U.P.?

 

I was eating more protein and more veg. I was initially tired, hungry and had cravings. But now I have more energy, a clearer head and I feel more confident. I have started making conscious choices when I eat out.

I started hitting 10,000 steps and made it more of a mission to get it done. I started sprinting and going to soccer weekly sometimes twice a week. I worked out every Monday and Friday at U.P. and I did my own workouts on Wednesday and Saturday about 70% of the time.

What effect did this have on your health, performance, lifestyle, and energy inside and outside the gym?

 

I had more energy during the day and for my workouts. My cardio at soccer improved. My immune system feels more resilient. I am more productive and motivated.

The biggest thing I would say is that the work I put in to ensure I was always upping my weights. I tried to hit personal bests and work to failure.

 

How did you find the training and did it fit around your busy lifestyle?

 

The training pushed me to work hard, but everyone was still friendly. It was very accommodating to my ever-changing lifestyle of a new baby, working wife, vacations and business trips.

 

What were your results like after your transformation?

 

I’m happy with my photos — I like how I look, how I feel. I have more confidence, and I am motivated to shed more body fat before beginning to start building more muscle and mass.

 

What were the most important things you learned during your journey and what really worked for you in helping you make your transformation?

 

The most important thing I learned on my three-month journey is nothing happens without commitment, consistent action, and being accountable for every small choice I make.

The accountability was probably the biggest factor in helping me be successful. From the emails to the tracking app and logging in My Fitness Pal. Taking measurements every week was a big factor, it helped me with the discipline as I knew if I didn’t stick to it, I would still be measured next week. This helped me make stronger choices around my diet and lifestyle during the week.
