What motivated you to start a personal training program with U.P.?
My main goal was to feel healthier and more energetic. I wanted to feel active again and back to my normal self, as I was before my surgery and my chronic fatigue syndrome diagnosis.
I was also keen to reduce my body fat and improve my muscle definition – it was really important to me after the surgery to get back to an active, healthy place.
Tell us a little bit about your diagnosis, and how it was affecting you?
I’d been feeling very unwell before U.P. in early 2020, so went to speak to a doctor about it. They found a blood clot in my brain, so I had surgery on that.
After my surgery, it took a long time for me to recover, I didn’t feel good for a while. I didn’t even have the chance to see doctors during lockdown, which made it difficult for me to focus on my health.
We came out of Covid, and I still wasn’t feeling better. I tried to go back to the gym, but I wasn’t really able to. Then a year later, I was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome, which was the reason why I didn’t feel like I was ever recovering.
My new normal was low energy, headaches and feeling dizzy. I’d had to spend some time not exercising and not doing any activity, I was just focusing on walking. I eventually decided to come to U.P. in the hope that someone could get me going, but I wasn’t sure if that would work.
How has bespoke personal training with U.P. helped you?
I noticed a big difference in my energy levels training with U.P. The program, especially the nutrition, made a big difference. I regained a lot of strength and I’m much stronger than I was prior to my operation.
I’m not only physically fitter, but my body fat has dropped as well. Getting my body moving has made me a lot more active and helped me feel confident in my appearance.
What has surprised you most about your program?
I thought I would have to cancel a lot of sessions because of my chronic fatigue syndrome. Before working with my trainer, I struggled to get myself to the gym. But my energy levels have improved as time has gone on.
My trainer has managed my workload well depending on how I feel on the day, and now I’m in the shape of my life. I look back at photos from when I was a bit younger, doing insane amounts of cardio and not eating well, where I was very thin and had no muscle.
Compare that to now, I look so much better – and that’s after the surgery and my chronic fatigue syndrome diagnosis.
Now that you’re in the shape of your life, how has that affected your life?
The results I’ve seen at U.P. have really impressed me, I’ve been really pleased. The fact I can live an active lifestyle makes me really happy, if I compare that to the place I was in not long ago.
I can now buy new clothes for myself and feel confident in them, which is nice. I’ve dropped my body fat, I’ve improved my muscle definition and I even have a bum now, which my friends and family are very surprised at! There’s a drastic difference now.
