Mike was in good shape – but he wanted to be great. 

The 32-year-old was an avid runner and already quite fit and active. 

He was lean and slim but he wanted more muscle, more definition and broader shoulders. 

Now in his early thirties, he felt it was now or never to get the physique he wanted. 

He put his goals in the hands of the world’s leading fitness professionals at Ultimate Performance Los Angeles. 

What he didn’t realise was just how quickly he could reach his goals and in four short weeks, he transformed his body into a muscular physique.  

“I have noticed the progress all through the program. You see the change in the mirror every morning, and then other things improve as well; I noticed I was sleeping better.  

You’re going to be tired in here, but once you actually get in the car, once you go to work in the afternoon, you do have more energy.  

You just feel better all around, and I think that’s the way it is supposed to be because your body’s getting a workout that it needs, and you’re eating right.” 

 Mike joined U.P. for a brief, targeted program of only four weeks, but the short duration in no way stopped him from achieving the transformation he wanted.  

He reduced his body fat percentage from 9.5% to just 6.3% to get a more muscular look with broader and more defined shoulders.  

I joined U.P. to get fitter in a different way. I’ve always been a runner and regularly take part in marathons, half-marathons, etc. I am pretty slim; that’s just how I have been my whole life.  

Now I just wanted to get a little bit bigger, a little more defined and I thought okay I’m in my 30s now. If I’m going to do it then now is probably the time to get on it.  

I’d go to gyms in my buildings or wherever and use the machines, but I wanted to know the right way to do things, and when I found U.P. I thought, okay this is probably where they teach you how to do that.” 

Mark was already pretty fit and ate relatively healthily; all U.P. needed to do was add its personalised weight training routine and tighten his nutrition plan further to get him the body shape he wanted. 

“My goals were to get bigger arms, more definition, get a little more broad, the abs to pop and just to fit certain clothes better, you know.  

I don’t know what I was expecting. You can look at all the pictures on the Internet and scroll through feeds and go, okay those people did it. But then at the back of your mind, you’re always kind of like ‘hmmm I don’t know. We’ll see.  

But it does work, and you do start to notice results quickly.” 

“The first thing I noticed actually was in the very first week.  I got these lines on my abs like a V, and that’s when I first started thinking  ‘oh, alright this might work!’ 

Mark came looking for a muscle-popping look. He got that and more. However, good physiques must be maintained, and U.P. taught him lifestyle habits and training techniques to keep looking great. 

“Well there’s the physical changes first of all, and then there are the everyday changes.

“You do feel better, you feel more awake, and you’re eating better.

“While it wasn’t like I was hitting fast-food joints every day before U.P., but with the program, I learned what to eat, where it goes and how your body uses it which is something that you can take away from here and keep using later. It makes the whole transformation more sustainable.”

What Mike loved about Ultimate Performance was that it is a tried-and-tested process that will deliver results if you follow it consistently.

“It’s been great! It is a system, and you need to stick to it if you want it to work.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re a numbers person and you like to hit quantifiable goals or if you are the sort that doesn’t care about any of that and can turn it into a game.

“Whatever your motivation or method is, it works because it’s working towards a goal.” 

“You just have to listen to your trainer. They know what they’re doing. Just come here with an open mind and when they say do this, then do that, and it’s going to work.” 

“It’s not easy, but what good things are easy? Sitting on the couch at home and watching Netflix is easy and yeah I’ll do that tonight, but I’m still going to get up and work out again tomorrow because that’s what I really want. You’ve got to just want it.”
