Sarah feels and looks better at 46 than she did at 26 after an 18-week transformation at Ultimate Performance.

Senior executive Sarah had slid off the fitness scales a while ago.

But when her self-consciousness started affecting other parts of her life, she knew it was time for a change.

“Before I came to U.P., I was self-conscious. I had started to lose my confidence. I kind of got into a lazy mindset – it was all about taking whatever was the easiest route, particularly from a nutrition perspective.

“I work in a place where I am constantly surrounded by junk food – biscuits, crisps, cakes, and I had gotten into this lazy way of eating.

“I found I was more sluggish; I wasn’t as alert as I used to be. And then because I started to gain more and more weight, I became more self-conscious, and I could really feel my confidence starting to dip.

“I wasn’t confident in voicing my own opinions or challenging other people. I got into quite a senior position, so I was expected to lead, and all of a sudden, I felt I was questioning myself all the time because I hadn’t got any confidence in my own abilities.”

Lack of confidence impacted more than her work life; Sarah felt herself pulling back from social events and felt that her behavior and habits might even create a bad example for her teenage son.

“Since joining U.P., my mindset has changed completely. I don’t eat for the sake of eating anymore. I am more conscious about what I put in my basket when I go grocery shopping, I am more aware of how I move, how I sit, about about getting in small pieces of exercise in throughout the day. So I am kind of more conscious about my health and wellbeing, I suppose.

“I can now talk to my son more knowledgeably about food and about how to exercise effectively. Also, he looks at me now, and he can see the difference I have made.

“That mentality of ‘something wasn’t right’ – I went and did something to make it right and that you actually have to work hard to achieve something you want to put right – that sense of taking ownership of things is something I hope he understands as well.”

Sarah feels like she has turned back the clock 20 years – and actually feels fitter, stronger and happier than the woman she was in her 20s.

“If I think back now to 18 weeks ago, I feel like a completely different person. I don’t even feel like the person I was in my 20s because I didn’t particularly like the way my body looked then even though I was slim.

“I wasn’t strong or toned like I am now! I am back to feeling confident; I am able to make decisions, and able to challenge other people. I am also able to take a wider perspective on things because I think I have got more clarity of thought.”
